Any other comic readers out there? Just finished this 4 part mini-series from Mark Millar and Sean Murphy. Two NASA scientists create a time machine then thoroughly abuse it. Yes that is a Pantera.

They did a pretty cool Back to the Future homage for the cover of the first issue.

I don’t know if there are any that service Norway, but in the U.S. there are websites that sell each title at 30-40% off. That’s what kept me reading comics as the prices soared. DCBS is a good one. Luckily a store opened near me who would give me decent enough discounts to make it worthwhile to shop there.

I’ll take a look. Thanks mate :)

I prefer books now, I can purchase a novel with 2 or 3 thousand pages for 15 bucks or so, but If I could find comics at a decent price, sure I’d buy them and read them. I read about 200 books each year anyway, so a comic or two would be a nice change :)

I enjoy novels as well, but they are two different experiences for me. When done well, comics are an art form unique to itself. The superhero books can be considered our current day mythology, but the independent comic scene has some remarkable works of art.

Absolutely true. I can’t elaborate on that, you described it perfectly.

I’m more into manga, but I have a few cool things, like an old (1989) Dark Horse release of a comic called Outlanders, does that count? I’ve also been working on getting the complete original release of Gunsmith Cats.

Sure that counts. I have an issue or two of Gunsmith Cats around from when Dark Horse was publishing them. I don’t have much manga. The Akira phonebooks that were reprinted a few years ago and some random other ones. I had all the translated Dragonball/Z issues that Viz released, but then they decided to stop printing individual issues in favor of the Shonen Jump collections. When they did that they started from the beginning again. I wanted no part of that.

Are yours the proper comic books, the trade paperbacks, or the Omnibus versions? I have the set of 4 omnibus versions, as well as the 5 “standard manga size” issue continuation series, Gunsmith Cats: Burst.

Anime and manga were not always known to be welcome here, so you never know what someone will say.

They are proper comic books. Probably from the early/mid 90’s.

I wouldn’t say I’m a huge anime/manga fan, but I enjoy good stories regardless of medium. I remember when they only way you could see anime in the U.S. was on the Sci-Fi channel on Saturdays. Good times. I still have Akira and Iria: Zeiram the Animation on VHS that I recorded. Even paused it during the commercials.

Cool! I’ve looked for some of the originals, but honestly, the times when I’ve found them and the times when I’ve had the cash in hand to buy them were opposite. I do have some cool GSC memorabilia though.

Nice, thank you! In return, check out my GSC Zippo.

its not perfect, but the perfect ones go for MAJOR coin.
I’m actually surprised by how inexpensive they are. then again, GSC isn’t exactly a heavily sought-after comic.

Image comics has been making every first TPB collection of its titles a blanket $10. If you are looking for off the beaten path, quality comics that are also affordable, I would recommend checking Image out.

What titles, you ask?

Nowhere Men. Prophet. Bedlam. Saga. Wytches. The Wicked + The Divine . Graveyard of Empires. To start.

I am a regular on the O-Deck (the once io9 spinoff community blog) and we cover comics all the time . Mostly the tights stuff, but indies get a little love, too.
