So after i sold my C6, I told my GF that I would take a few m9nths before buying another car to pay down some debt. I have until the end of January to buy one so that I don’t lose the sales tax credit for the Corvette.

So typical me, I’ve been watching every single Fiesta ST/500 Abarth Video - the entire Smoking Tire videos where they also upgrade it, EveryDay Driver’s comparison, and so on.

So I went to True Car yesterday and spec’d a 2015 Fiesta ST w/ the Recaros - that came to $20,500ish. I’d probably qualify for their current 0% financince, and would do 72 months, because why not, it’s free.

After my GF went to sleep, I realized to myself that if I buy the car now, I wouldn’t be able to pay down the debt as fast. And that I really should wait until January to buy - which also means that I don’t have to pay Missouri’s Personal property Tax on it next year, which they charge something like 6% of 1/3 the value every year if you own the car on 1/1. It’s a good fucking scam they have - this year I’ll probably have to pay $600 for the C6 and the ‘09 Accent - and of course they send the bill right around the holidays.

So in the meantime, I’ll try to be happy thrashing the Accent. but come January, I’m sure I’ll be itching for something fun.

“Personal property tax”? What is this mad Communism? I’ve never heard of such a thing!

Wait a minute you mean to tell me that you get charged yearly for tax on your vehicles?

In Alberta if you buy a car private sale you pay ZERO tax at all and if you buy a car from a dealer you pay 5% ONCE.

It seems you get royally fucked where you are.

The Accent is, in fact, a car, although sometimes it doesn’t act like one.

And don’t complain about the taxes as long as they are used for something important, like road and bridge repair. Residents of New Jersey have begged Christie to accept federal money and spend NJ taxes on bridge repairs and tunnel construction, but to no avail. I wonder how many more road and rail deaths it will take before people show this asshole, and all the others, the door.

Yup - I’d pay them 6% after purchase, and then 6% of 1/3 value (why they don’t just charge 2% of full value is beyond me) every year. If you don’t pay it, you can’t renew the plates. Of course there my have been times where I left a vehicle off the declaration form knowing that I will be getting rid of it and won’t be renewing the plates.

I don’t have too much faith in them not wasting the $ :)

I can’t disagree with you ... states need to use our tax dollars to benefit the people who live there. If I’m on a NY-maintained bridge, and it collapses, I’m asking for a refund.

Congrats and being able to into adult. I’m trying to do the same, pay off more of my current car until I can save up a good chunk for a down payment. Or motorcycle.

Also - wtf is wrong with Missouri? I’m only staying on Kansas because I refuse to deal with property taxes and keep renewing my tags with my old AZ address which still charges you a percentage of the value of the car in order to renew the tags, so not much better. I just paid $700 for a one year tag. FfS!

In the UK his Corvette would cost about £500 a year to tax. It sucks here too.

Yup, it’s a silver GS hatch - 5 spd of course. Rocking steelies with repro Corolla hubcaps I got for something like $23 on Amazon.

I’d bet my US GS is the same as your Canadian L - I have manual locks and windows, yet I have Sirius XM :D

Probably! I have manual locks, manual windows, manual mirrors, no ABS, and no Cruise Control! :P

Trying to solve a rattle under the drivers’ side dash at the moment....I can live with it, but it was never there until a month ago.

Ya same here - no ABS or traction control. I almost put in an aftermarket cruie control, but I e-mailed the company and they never replied.

The only wierd issue I had with is is the Driver’s rear window - the studs that hold it to the car are embedded in the plastic frame of the window. One day I noticed some water made it’s way to the floor in the back. I pushed on the window to see if it could be that, and the top of the window was pulling away from the car. I bought a new window and put it in - same thing happened a week later - I noticed it getting loud inside the car at highway speeds. Bought another, and 2 of the studs fell off in shipping - they let me keep the window, and refunded my $.

Rather than buy another window, I tried simply using JB Weld to hold the stud in place. Same thing happened a week later.

I finally fixed my original by stripping all the plastic off the base of the stud that fell out, then heating it up, and jamming it into the window frame, covering it with some JB Weld. I realized the 1st replacement broke because I over tightened the nuts, so this time I barely tightened it, It’s been a few months and no issues. I still have an extra window that I need to fix just in case, but I can replace it in about 45 minutes now if it happens again lol.

Hmmm...can’t say I’ve ever had that problem! My mom and bro both have similar-spec Accent sedans (an ‘09 and a ‘10) and they’ve had issues with their windows “winding down” a bit over time without them touching them. Mom had all her regulators replaced under warranty at the dealership as did bro for his front regulators....so far so good, but when you pull the handle to the fully closed position, it still feels like the handle isn’t solidly “locked” in place, if that makes any sense, and that bumping it would drop the windows down again...no issues like theirs on my car though, but the hatch has longer doors and different glass, so not sure...?

I would love to know what the rattle is in my car under the dash....it started when I removed the small trim piece that contains that dash gauge dimmer knob to drill a hole in it for the switch for my upcoming LED lights. that is the ONLY trim piece I removed aside from the little panel on the side of the dash that you can see when you open the door. Both are reattached as they were from the factory, so they aren’t loose...I’ve looked under the dash countless times and I can’t see any damn thing that’s loose except the weird plastic-y/rubber-y sleeve that the speaker cable goes to that runs out into the door. Holding it and knocking it against the metal body of the hole it passes through produces a similar sound, but I already taped that in place with some electrical tape, and I still hear the noise...
