The Taur-ass starter is kaput.
(That awkward moment when the German car is here to rescue the American one)
At first we though it was the negative terminal on the battery again so we replaced that. Nothing. Then we thought the battery was dead so we jumped it. Nothing.
(Guess who’s hood struts are dead? This guy!)
Then her dad gets there and he beats the starter with a hammer. Nothing. Finally he calls AAA and asks for a tow truck. We wait around for an hour and a half (half hour my ass, phone lady) and they send a battery guy instead of a tow truck. He beats the starter with a breaker bar and the damn thing starts! So we took it to her dads work where he’ll be changing it tomorrow as well as recharging the dead AC.
That was a long time to sit out in the heat but at least there was a breeze. Guess the took kit I had my girlfriend buy yesterday for some insurance did a whole load of good, huh?

You’re dating Emily Clarkson?

The hammer trick is one of my favs. Beat on it while you try to crank it. Works 99.9% of the time. Also works with dead fuel pumps. Beat on the bottom of the tank while cranking it.

Looks like a new turbo

What is it with Ford’s and starters? My friend’s F-150’s starter caused it to run into a building...

ACDelco turbo at that

Holy hell.
My dad was saying even the starter on his Ford truck from the 70s was garbage so they've always been bad apparently.

His shifter was loose apparently, so even though it indicated it was in P, it was really in R, then he turned the key and the starter stuck on. It started towards a 4 lane highway, his door caught a pole, that actually turned the truck around, and brought it into a building. Moral of the story, Ford’s starters suck, but their doors are the strongest steel on earth.
The other side was worse, but for whatever reason I didn’t take a pic.

Oh yeah, her shifter does that sometimes too. Dash says in park but you can’t take the key out. Luckily hasn't done anything like that yet. Brake switch is going bad too so the brake lights don’t work sometimes. It's a rolling accident waiting to happen.

Could be worse. I had to replace the starter on my Taurus this last winter... after chipping away 3-4 inches of ice. It's wise to have AAA and/or an auto fixit savings account.

My parents’ 96 E-150 went through starters all the time, it was rather absurd. I remember my dad replacing a starter on his 90s F-150 and possibly on his 88 Ranger. Then we inherited a 90-something Crown Vic from my great grandpa and the starter went out within the first few months.
So yeah, Fords and starters. Yikes.
