And let me know if this would work as well as I think it will... One issue is offsets are really making no sense at all to me. I just want to know if these wheels I’m looking at will be a direct fit and can even use my virtually new tires that I currently have. Thanks!
Okay so I really like these Volvo “Spider” wheels I have here. I don’t see them all too often and think they are sporty and kind of aggressive. They are 17X7 with a 5X108 bolt pattern and a 52.5MM offset.
These are the wheels I currently have installed. These are the Volvo “Mestra” wheels. They really are a pain to clean and look a little....weird. They are also 17X7 with a 5X108 bolt pattern and a 52.5MM offset.
My dream is this: Take the Mestra wheels off of my virtually brand new tires. Put those virtually new tires on the Spider wheels. Then attach to car and enjoy.
Also, can someone tell me if these would work? These Pegasus wheels are 17x8, 5 Lug, 108mm Bolt Pattern, with a 46mm Offset? Any explanation would be so much help.
Will this plan with the Spiders be as easy as I think it will be? Thanks in advanced!

It’s slightly more complicated than this, but in a nutshell offset means how far out the wheels are pushed from the centerline of the hub.
In order to maintain the same clearance with the fender as OEM when going to a wider wheel, you do indeed want a lower offset.
The 17x8 wheels are an inch wider, or 25mm. The offset for those wheels is 6.5mm less. So, your wheel will stick out 25/2 - 6.5 = 6mm more than stock. That’ll be okay, since Volvo’s OEM wheel clearance doesn’t have the tire anywhere close to touching the fender.

Just find out the stock offset of your wheels and find out the max offset you can have without rubbing or sticking out and you’re golden.

Important question: why the fuck do wheels use a mix of metric and standard measurements?

they go round and round, round and round. the wheels go round..

The only explanation you need is that Ronal Bears are the most awesome wheels ever :)

search for a wheel offset calculator there is one really good site that has a graphic to show a comparison and will tell the measurement compared to two wheels it also has input for tire sizes it is really helpful. I wish I had the link offhand.

Here’s a site that lets you plug in dimensions and then gives you a graphic representation of what it would look like.

I think they’d work. It’d be worth it to get rid of the Mestras. They’re a bitch to clean, even at a detail shop that deals with Volvos very often.

I hate figuring out offsets, especially trying to find someone who knows the STOCK offset to ensure you have caliper clearance etc. When I bought my wheels/tires i used a site like this and since you know the stock wheel offset you can plug in variants of the wheel size you would like and see the fitment. Have fun!

The other big reason is the PO of my car really sucked at parallel parking. I have a lot of curb rash on them... and the best offer to refinish them was $125 a wheel so id rather spend a little more and get all new ones!

They probably are because they are both Volvo oem but make sure the hub sizes are also the same
