...has me thinking. It's obviously just going to be a disappointment, so I'm going to boycott purchasing a new Lexus for at least 20 years. Who's with me?

I’d be driving an IS-350 F-Sport right now if I had the money.

Does it count as a boycott if you already weren’t interested in any of their vehicles?

I won’t be buying a Lexus for at least 20 years, so sure. But not because of the hoverboard. The hoverboard is just viral marketing towards stupid people.

Just 20? I say 50 years, yeah f**k you Lexus, you’ve just lost a customer for the next 50 years!

(Full disclaimer -: Lexus have yet to make a car that has made me want to even enter one of their dealerships, let alone buy one, my OH did like the Ct200h thing for a while, cause it's "the Kylie car" but I put my foot down and let him get the DS4 instead!)

Not even an LFA? If a dealer near me had one, I wouldn’t mind going to check it out in person, even though there’s no way I can afford one. I think that counts as wanting to enter a dealership.

“We could build an exciting car.”

“Nah.”

I don’t really like the looks of it, I know it sounds “amazing” and Mr Clarkson is fond of it but it really doesn’t do it for me, that and the fact that the rest of their range has either been coma inducing boring (but it will go for 500k miles, great I haven’t had a car with over 80k on it since I was 18!) or just trying too hard with their hideous predator grill AND I have never seen a Lexus interior that isn’t meh, as in just a tarted up Toyota one!

The hoverboard is just all hype. I thought that they came out with some new idea to hover, but it’s nothing new, it’s just supercooled magnets over magnets. My friend did a similar science project when he was in 5th grade.

Being able to hover on top of a road that has magnets laid into it is nothing new. It’s just Lexus making good looking bamboo/metal boards like they always do.

I agree with absolutely everything you just said. AND I’m generally an all-things-toyota-basher. But I would still go to the dealer to see it in person. I can’t explain why (It’s not anywhere near the best looking supercar, or fastest, it costs approximately all the $$), but I really like it.

Good, if we all liked the same things the world would be a very dull place.

Lexi are not a big seller in the UK, esp compared to the US, they really just don’t appeal that much to us, all we see is a tarted up Toyota, like we also don’t buy Infinities for the same reason (that and they are ugly!), though I did see one the other day, took me a while before I figured out what it was. We don’t even get Acura, just plain old Honda.

But it just looks like a Toyota coupe with a bad aftermarket body kit and isn’t the engine noise "electronically enhanced"?

Looks rad and sounds incredible. A lot N/A V8 awesomeness in this short shelf life, high revving turbo world. Me gusta chingos! As far a styling, fuck yeah break away from the mold! A little too flashy to a point but no more than the giant grill on an Audi or edges of a BMW. I like it a bunch. For the price, a C7 is more to my taste but as an auto tech of 13+ years, durability tickles my fancy :]

and by electronically enhanced, it is a different than the pittyful way than BMW ///M cars are. Like the LFA, they engineered a way to channel the sound to the cabin instead of straight up speakers. Also, the intake has a electronically controlled flap that opens after it read a certain load and rev range allowing it to grown like a pissed off lion. Such a rad sound that is soooo rare nowadays

And yet everyone walks past the Lexus dealers and buys a BMW M* or Mercedes AMG* cos it’s just a gussied up Toyota, it has no class or heritage, sure it sounds lovely though.

lol dude, I work with AMG’s everyday. Trust me, the last thing these old guys think about when buying these cars is their heritage. I bet you think they are hand crafted buy German engineers huh? LOL nope! Just regular blokes putting parts together at an assembly plant :]

It’s not like Toyota doesn’t have ANY recent motorsport history

Kinja'd!!!

Here is fact that will blow your mind, enthusiasts do not but new AMG, Aston Martin, or Lotus. I swear on my life. I couldn’t believe it myself. After 4 years here at my job, I can promise you this. Also, customers can care less about heritage and brand history.

Maybe in the US but over here no one who cares about cars buys a Lexus, they buy Aston Martin, Lotus, BMW, Jaguar etc, we really don’t get the whole Japanese luxury car thing here.

“See you after the warranty is up and you need service work” - Lexus

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve owned now 8 German cars including an M3. German engineering, pride, heritage, “soul”, and all that are just buzz words. After my 13+ years in the automotive business, I have come to the conclusion that there is no “best in class”. Every car competing in every segment is great nowadays. Unique styling, performance, and luxury whether from Europe, USA, or Japan. There is no best because there are too many contradictions in the car world. Obsessing on “the best” is childish and idiotic. They ALL something to offer to a customer that probably doesn’t even care after a certain price range. There is not a best or “better” car. One offers this while the other offers that. Adding stereotypes to a discussion is the lowest of the low.
