Solved by phenotyp-san! SAAB Sonett was a great guess, as it does bear a striking resemblance to their Catherina prototype:

2000GT and Opel GT were also solid guesses, so hats off to all of you!

Great guess. One of the other models had the 2KGT DLO as well, so you were on the right track. It was another iconic Japanese sports car, the 240Z.
