Kinja'd!!!

Whenever I see someone say they paid X amount in X year I always have to know how much that is in today’s dollars.

I’ll be honest the RX7 was a lot more expensive than I thought. 23K today is technically just over a third of what he paid.

It theoretically cost him about 37K to drive 35000 miles so just over $1 per mile. That’s was an expensive car to own he definitely did not get his monies worth.

An FD is definitely near the top of my list of cars to own.

Really kinda puts into perspective how good we have it today with the 370Z, Miata, Toybaru, Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, and the likes all starting under 30K.

Ugh, I had a 94 that was silver on red also. Miss that car so much.

So you’re saying I could have had this instead of my FR-S? I paid the exact same price! Granted my car is 20 years newer and had 31k less miles, but FD!!!

That’s actually not too crack pipey for an FD that hasn’t been messed with.

And LS swapped. Not that I have anything against LS swapping, I think most things would be improved with an LS. But... #savethedoritos

I remember in ‘94, a local dealer still had a brand new ‘93 in the showroom. It had a dealer markup on it that made the car $50k. IN ‘94!

Doritos are awesome enough as they are, the Ls is overrated.

This thing needs to be bought and driven. I’m local, but unfortunately, I’m not the man to do it. I have loved these cars forever, but I learned my lesson with the arguably more reliable FC.

I live in O'Fallon now, but I used to live down there in High Ridge. That was a blur.

Prices will climb steadily on these in time, but we’re not there yet. The novelty of the engine, the looks, and the handling don’t outweigh the reliability downsides...yet. That being said, the margin between this and an NSX with similar miles will buy a lot of rotary engine rebuilds, and I’d rather have this.

Glorious.

Silver over red... even better.

Spoiler-less... even cleaner, which is also better.

This is investment-grade. I would actually consider spending that money, if I had it in cash and in a fun-money fund.

One of the purest coupe forms of modern times, as well as the bastion of innovation for Wankel Rotary use.

My only dilemma would be whether to leave it absolutely bone-stock, or convert it to a 99-spec JDM front bumper, and maybe some lighter aftermarket wheels (but keep the stock ones ready.)

Kinja'd!!!

The 99-spec bumper is just more perfect than the earlier version, and is still Mazda OEM-spec.

If the car is museum-quality, I might leave it alone. If the car has any changes, and isn’t 1000% original, then I would go 99-spec, and otherwise keep it very pristine with minimal mods and engine reliability and de-complication upgrades.

Cool. Have you been to the Cars & Coffee at Westport? I keep meaning to go, but I’ve had something going on every weekend so far. The next one is on the 15th.

I’m trying to make it, too. I’ll try and say hi if that ends up being the case. It’d be nice to know someone local that’s into the same stuff.
