A few weeks ago I picked up a seat from a early 90s Honda Prelude that was in surprisingly good shape and said I was going to use it for a racing rig/sim. Well, after much procrastination I finally got around do building the damn thing. By no means is it done (I still have to make a rear bit for the seat to go on and theres a good bit of ironing out to do along with some issues of mounting my wheel and pedals but its a start. So, here it is.

v 1.0 looks good. Looking forward to v 2.0.

Im just hoping its sturdy enough, I was going to use 2 inch PVC but 1.5 inch was A LOT cheaper, like half the price cheaper.

it’ll just be like you’re driving a Lancia and the whole steering rack flexes with you.

You could also fill it with sand to make it sturdier.

I’ve already been toying with the idea of filling it with something to make it sturdier but it is going to be living in the apartment with my girlfriend and I, so Im not too sure how well she’d take to having sand all over the place, haha.

I don’t know how breakdown-able you want it to be. But my first thought on seeing it is that things might move around a lot. What about a piece of plywood to mount the PVC and pedals to? Some sort of half-circle pipe fitting thing would do, I think. But I’m no plumber, so I don’t know what’s out there.

Im planning on using plywood as a base for the seat and the wheel as well as using some strips of it and a u bolt to mount the pedals to

to be fair, there’ll only be sand everywhere if you break it... but 1.5 inch is pretty rigid anyway. The main flex you’ll get is in the joints, so you can just epoxy those on real good and you’ll probably be fine.

I made something similar a while ago, and ended up using Velcro on the pedal set to stop it from moving around. Works a treat.

Tell her it’s like living near the beach. If she likes the beach, it might work, if she doesn’t, keep her.

Nice! I’m planning on building a rig with a seat out of my Miata.

Is the 318 in your username an area code reference?
