I think deep down in every true Jalop’s heart lies the essence of Saab. They made fun, quirky, efficient, awesome cars. They were truly ahead of the times. Now every car is turbocharged, small displacement, low drag coefficient, and ultra safe. Saab has been doing that for over 35 years. They were truly ahead of their time, and their full potential wasn’t realized by GM. Its passing is the saddest, in my eyes, since the fall of Studebaker. Lets bring them back!

I think to start we need to think of a good ethos, a rock solid foundation that the brand sticks with though the times and build on. I think they started with a pretty good set of guidelines to live by: Safety and fuel efficiency.

Put any ideas in the comments, (it doesn’t have to be about values) if you have any idea about how to go through with this or connections thats great too.

Here is some inspiration:

Did you know that they stamped the entire body all at once and then cut the doors and hood out?

Wagons. Every car has a wagon variant.

Not in the US market.

In the Oppo market, yes.

Even the convertibles.

I'd move toward country run by OPPO. But yeah. Then just enthusiast cars and massive SUVs for the U.S. market.

It could be kinda like a soft top jeep.

Actually, we could probably slip in wagons by calling them SUV’s, or at least crossovers. People would believe that. People buy the X1.

Think how badass that would be as a supercar, that thing is a fucking jet, except opening it in garages, and rain.

We could do that. And label it like Honda did with the Accord Crosstour.

A wagon with an AWD Electric-Gas Turbine hybrid.

Basically start with the Tesla Model S idea (in terms of the chassis/drive train), add a gasoline or diesel microturbine power generator:

Saab had a good run. I’d rather more be put towards Volvo, as it shares the same positive qualities, but isn’t dead.

I think good design could solve the rain issue. And the garage thing is a common nitpick of cars that open upwards, do you really think this low supercar would reach higher than the boot of a Cherokee?

Really I think a new Saab would have to be something for all terrain use. The early cars, 92 through 99 were immensely sturdy, relatively simple, handled well and had generous ground clearance. I would like to see Saab return if they would go back to that formula, but unfortunately there probably isn’t much of a market for that kind of car that Subaru doesn’t already dominate with the WRX.

So the other thing would maybe be to push aerodynamics and economy to the max. No pandering to lowest common denominator, just go all out and make something special.

The car you advocate in the first paragraph would sell if a) it was marketed as a kind of Swedish Outback and b) if it was priced inexpensively for the kinds of youth/youthful/youthful-ish customers who’d like one.
