Welp, at least my car is working goo..... oh poop..... what the fuuuuuu!?!?!?!?
BUT!!!!!!!
lol butt :] As bad as things seem, solutions were found. First, my wife and her phone
Sheeeet #1
My little lady went out shopping at some mall this morning with my little sister to buy some ( general girl items ) for an upcoming trip to Vegas. She is tagging along with my parents, luckyyyyyy. Little by little she will learn all the places big and small throughout the land that make America so kickass! Unfortunately, while she was inside of a changing booth at a Forever 21 trying out some shorts, her 1 month old Samsung PotaNote 4 kind of slid from her pocket onto the ground by her feet and door. Well no shit, some girl saw the phone on the ground, snatched it, and took off running along with some clothes. All happened within 2-4 seconds of the phone dropping. My little sister saw this and took off after her but that girl got a really good jump off the line. My sister was shouting at mall goers, pointing at her shouting that she stole a phone, pleading for someone to help. Of course, these damn weenie kids today just stood there like idiots and didn’t assist in any way. My sister told me there was plenty of people that could of just easily slowed her down or something!
After all that, my wife called me crying and totally bummed out. She felt like crap for letting that happen. She had so many pictures from back home and stuff from her family. Also, those “First time as a married couple ___ and first time in America___” pictures. All gone :’(
Welp, I soon called my cell provider. They passed me to the theft department, insurance department, and all that jazz. At lunch, I went out to a near by store and got her a replacement Note 4. She is calm and feels better now. She relies on her phone to be able to call and message her family in Mexico. So for now, it’s all good :]
RACECAR BREAK!
Sheeeet #2:
My cousin, a pretty big dude about 6’2” 260 was at the bank to depositing some cash. He drives a clean as hell red Dodge Ram SRT-10. He left the bank and went out to his truck and a guy came around the corner with a fucking M4 assault rifle, hand on the trigger, pointed right at his face. He asked him to give him the money. He said that he didn’t have any. He picked up the gun higher towards his head and told him to give him the keys to the truck. He gave him the keys and the guy got in and tried to take it..... tried and failed BECAUSE......
The guy got out of the truck, threw his keys at my cousin, and fled in a shitty Chrysler 300 apparently hitting a truck on the feeder road as he took off. Maaaan things could of gone way worse. He is a big dude but he is also young and was pretty traumatized by the whole event. He got really emotional and was a wreck. Enough to where her called my parents (who lives like 2 blocks down) to give him a ride home. He couldn’t drive, his nerves were too shot :’( Crazy stuff.
Sheeeeet #3:
My clumsy, slow as balls Audi Quattro wagon somehow found a way to get slower. It did so by deciding that shift solenoid harnesses are for total squares. I was able to make it to work in limp mode. I got it up on a lift, took it apart, did some drop tests, found an open in the harness, called Audi to hook it up, and they came within a half an hour to my dealer to drop off the part. I put in approx. what I took out (maybe a tad more) of ATF since I don’t have the fittings and Audi scan tool to match the temperature and the overflow level. I went and drove it and she was all good and slow :]
As I was typing this, I had a trillion customers calling in about their special order parts. Right before thankfully, I got a call from out delivery truck that told me they had a break down and will be about 4 hours late. I got an earful from everyone lol.
RACECAR BREAK!!!!!!
TR;TR A string of bad luck when dealt in a calm matter will not escalate to full on panic :]

That sucks, man. Sorry about the pictures too. Glad to hear our friend Manuel foiled another theft, at least.

What a wild ass timeline of recent events. Glad to know your cousin is okay! I think I’m more upset those valuable photos are gone.

*Hugs the super cuddly Cookie Monster*
I’m glad things got resolved. It sucks so hard about those pictures though. If they were saved to removable media, there’s a chance they can be somewhat recovered. :(

Man, I know that feel. Trying to clean up and rent out a condo (still paying a mortgage on), putting a new roof on our house, and it turns out my bearing in my front hub is either bad or badly out of adjustment. Good times. Your stuff sure sounds scary, especially the robbery. Dag yo. re: the phone, my wife also lost her phone at walmart recently and we lucked out that it was STILL in the cart hours later. More amazing that her mother was able to find the cart! Anyway, its like i tell my kids: crying or tantrums don’t make things better, they just make you feel worse and you end up still having the same problems. One of them KINDA gets it.

What a lot of bad luck! Nothing happening in my world, and that suits me just fine!

Google +
Back up all your android photos. That happened to my wife when the kids were flailing while being buckled in car seats, kicked phone out of her hand, back flew off, battery out, Micro SD Card out & cracked in half destroying it & all the baby pictures.
My wife didn't have them backed up. I think she does now.

HOLY CRAP! People really suck. I had to go measure the existing conditions of a 3-family yesterday. I was a bit nervous since there was a shooting/stabbing incident around the corner recently. I get to the building and it was supposed to be locked up and wasn;t. I had the guy I was working for on the phone until I was able to do a complete walk thru. Thankfully nothing more than a squirrel in there.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 15:29 |

I'm glad everything mostly worked out. It's better everyone safe, healthy, and alive.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 15:34 |

Sheesh, did the bank have any cameras outside? Did you guys call the cops? I know in Texas you can carry assault weapons pretty much everywhere so it’s probably tough to figure out who did it.

Good thing it wasn’t a Quad Cab. (Auto only)
![]() 07/23/2015 at 15:47 |

It’s not really a planned thing for theft reasons, but the Ranchero being set up where it has a start cycle (rad fans on, fuel on, 5 second wait cycle, computer on, key on, start button) and being a four-speed column shift means that someone successfully stealing it would have to be an Alan Turing clone. Manuel theft protection insanity mode.
(Fan pre-check and fuel due to reasons of having a belly-pan setup that will trap vapor - better safe than sorry, and because no capacity for a mechanical pump, I’ll have it on a switch with a fire/thermal safety. Computer on because Megasquirt, and start button to be able to crank it “dead” and because my Rover has one and they rock.)
![]() 07/23/2015 at 15:51 |

#1 really sucks. It makes me wish fewer stores had gone into CYA mode about shoplifting where they don’t even stop people anymore. A big security person might have been able to help. #2 is just crazy.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:04 |

When I first read the headline, I thought it said your wife had her phone stolen AND got robbed at gunpoint. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
Why the fuck do people steal phones? Once you call your provider and report it stolen it effectively gets bricked on that carrier.
And once again, if you’re gonna steal someone’s car, it might be a good idea to know how to drive a manual transmission...
Damn son, hopefully luck turns around for everybody.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:08 |

Again with the madness. That’s what I love about proper racing cars. You can build oil pressure on the starter before firing, or run the fuel pump to do pump-outs without running the car.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:12 |
|
See, with the oil pump setup on the Rover V8, it’s not a wet pump - so it struggles to self-prime. Starting it on too little oil would be way too damn easy, so being able to spin it up is a plus.

oh dayum! I couldn’t do that work man :X
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:20 |

100% fact sir. Car problems seem to happen at the worst time but not going into a panic is key (K-Roll!) j/k. You don’t repack the bearings on your gen Land Cruiser right? It was the next gen every 30K. Crazy lucky your lady’s phone was still there. It happened once with my niece and her tablet. It was still i the cart lol.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:21 |
|
thanks buddy. It was small dip in luck but we recovered quickly :] Yeah the theft department said something like that about it being basically bricked. Can’t unlock it or anything because of the serial number.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:22 |
|
thanks buddy. She turned on the media sync to Google+ now just in case.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:23 |

The bearings were repacked when they were serviced last year. I haven’t it done it myself yet, i didn’t have the tool im getting tonight to do it.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:23 |

yeah that’s true. I heard they couldn’t legal hold people down or some political crap because it was a form of taking them hostage technically or some crap
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:26 |

what was messed up was that the security guard at the bank was literally snoozing off. They called the police because of that truck that was hit during the getaway. not too sure on the current deets
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:27 |

yeah dude we gotta be careful out there. Crime in Houston is at a rise after going to down consistently.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:27 |

100% fact. Gotta just be on the alert and not panic
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:28 |

I still have the tool and bearing repacker from my Toyota/Lexus days. The 9oK service payed so good on the LX470.
All fluids, rotation, filters, timing belt, bearings. It was like 9 hours pay and I knocked them out in like 2.5 or 3 hours.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:31 |

It’s crazy how different Texas and NYC are, if someone pulls an assault rifle out here there would be an all out police manhunt for this person. But in Texas its NBD lol crazy

It occurs to me that the electric transfer case control in neutral could also be true, although unless I were being carjacked I’d have no earthly reason to be that arbitrary and dickish.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:36 |

Yeah, you think “oh its only fluids” like 9 quarts of engine oil, 3 quarts of front diff, 2 quarts of t case, 3 quarts of rear diff and 6 quarts of transmission. Fluids alone that will be...DAYUM!
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:39 |

Holy shitpickles, man! What a crazy unfortunate string of events....
Did she have the google phone tracking thing? Maybe you can make an insurance claim?
It sucks balls, but hind sight is always 20-20. That could have happened to anyone.
I used to have the drop-box trial thing going and that backed up my phone pics automatically. That’s run out for a while and I’m thinking of buying the service so I can keep backing up my stuff, in case something like this happens.
Manuel saves the day :)
And get that M5/ Z4M asap so you can not worry about the wagon for a while :)
Update: Just saw some comments. Yes, google+ can back up all your pics but Im not a fan of google slowly wrapping its tentacles around and into all facets and orifices of my life, much like tentacle porn.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:44 |
|
lol yup :] Well, the stereotype is 100% false trust me. We are not walking around here packing heat any more or less than other states. But there is more talk about that topic here for sure
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:47 |
|
lol right. Oh man, it never fails the customer “ is not waiting but it needs to be done asap ” Oh i’ll never forget the smells of the hot 80w90. yuuuck
Aston diff fluid isn’t too bad. Petronas sythetic fluid doesn’t have a particular odor
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:49 |

yeah dude crazy stuff. She has the sync turned on with her Google+ now. Yes, manual should be in my future, but not til next year lol :]
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:50 |

gear oil stinks like nothing else and I hate it. I will admit it. We crashed our k2500 suburban, bad, years ago and it cracked the front diff (see what I mean) and it got diff oil all over the canvas watch band I had at the time. It stunk SOOOO bad, but I couldn’t get rid of it because I couldn’t stand being without a watch. now I probably would have just left it on the accident scene.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 16:54 |

Ugh... Well misery loves company I suppose.
At least my little girls happy, and she loves her some Cookie Monster.

holy hell, sounds like it was not just bad but hella bad wreck! Yes, the canvas bands soak up everything. Shit, the rubber one from my Casio calculator one didn’t smell to good either when I took it off at night lol :]

funny thing about the wreck that bent the frame, cracked the diff and broke a wheel in half...we fixed the car and it wasn’t totaled. new diff, frame straitened and new wheel, boom, fixed. There was body damage but most of the damage was due to a rock that we hit not driving into a giant ditch big enough for the engine car and then some. My brother fell asleep and sideswiped a car on a curve before hitting the rock that saved us from the ditch. could have been bad, 7 people in the car.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 17:18 |

Oh, next year is too long!
Maybe google+ can sync with her phone now and back up from the stolen phone.
Oh, Im sure you can change ur google settings on your computer, about tracking the phone and stuff...
![]() 07/23/2015 at 17:23 |

Whoa! That’s a lot of crazy going on!
Number 1 - Someone else mentioned it, but it sucks that stores DGAF about shop lifting anymore. When I worked at Home Depot a few years ago we were specifically instructed to not attempt to stop shop lifters. It always really infuriated me that I’m there working to earn a living and these other assholes are just taking it. Also, who steals a phone? Once you call your carrier they can brick it and it’s done. People are the worst sometime. Sorry your girl lost all the pictures. Maybe there’s some hope it will get recovered.
Number 2 - That is some scary shit right there. And people wonder why I carry. Although in that situation, I’d have done the exact same thing as your cousin - he’s a smart man, it’s often better to comply and live than be brave and dead. I’m really glad to hear he’s ok and hope he’s not shaken up too bad. Also, I’m not sure if I’m understanding, did the assailant hit your cousin’s truck, or a different one?
Number 3 - At least the car is fixed. One thing you don’t have to worry about.
Anyways, I hope things improve, that’s way too much for one day.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 17:38 |

Also master tech and Cookie Monster made me think of something along these lines
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:01 |

lol right click/saved. As far as your car, you’ll just have to run down the order. When those things get hot, it doesn’t take long for the head gasket to go.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:01 |
|
OMG!!! dayum dude that is was scary
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:05 |

thanks buddy. She has turned on the sync thought Google+ to backup that sort of media. The would be criminal hit a different truck while trying to fee the scene.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:08 |
|
“Run down the order”? I assume go though compression check, fuel check and so forth? Then start breaking down shit?
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:09 |
|
keep it simple :] If you need a parts break down picture or anything let me know
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:21 |

quick question then, can you think of anything in the area of the furthest passenger side cyclinder that has coolant and could leak?
Yeah il send you a message or something if I need any thing! Thanks sir.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:24 |

Just a rough patch ULY, I hope all this bad luck turns over to great times.

That pipe runs coolant where the arrow is

Oh I'm sorry I meant back of the engine, near the exhaust. Yeah that tube blew up too sad to say
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:34 |

tis all good homie. I might have to rub a huevo all over my cousin to take the fear away
![]() 07/23/2015 at 18:39 |
|
all this :]
![]() 07/23/2015 at 19:22 |
|
All righty then. That's a bit to check, thanks!
![]() 07/24/2015 at 01:56 |
|
I did a compression test, 3 are below 60 pounds 1 is below 30, and one is sitting pretty at 90.
Filled up coolant, and could see it threw the spark plug hole...
I'm going with head gasket assumption
![]() 07/24/2015 at 02:22 |

Sorry to hear about the bad happenings but I’m glad everyone is ok!
Everyone knows shift solenoid harnesses are for squares, real cars use conductor plates!
![]() 07/24/2015 at 07:47 |

look at the bright side , no one was injured / dead
and bad luck comes in threes
so fingers crossed it’s all good for quite some time.

Well, that’s kind of good... that would make a bad day even worse... attempted robbery at gunpoint and the dirtbag hits your truck. Glad everyone is ok.

indeed 3. What a fascinating number

that’ll do it. I kind of figured since you said it kind of wanted to start while cranking and how even before the red mark those give out. Fuck dude sorry to hear about that :(
