Yes, I was sober.
It’s a 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible, and every inch of it is glorious!
It has a 295HP HE series engine, an automatic roof, full independent suspension, inboard rear disk brakes, and added sway bars.
Lovelyyyyyyy
Mmmmm
Hot stuff
What does Oppo think of my insane purchase?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:03 |

It’s awesome!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:04 |

That. Is. Amazing.

You are insane alright.
Now, put on straight pipes.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:04 |

HOLY MONKEY! You might be crazier than me!
Does it purr?
How’s the roadster coming?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:07 |

The best kind of insane.

That shifter is just pure sex!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:12 |

It’s quite a lovely Jaaaaaaaaaag!
295 bhp / V12 = 24.6hp/cylinder. Wow, 12 cylinders with not much power?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:12 |

Congrats! I looks brand new
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:12 |

For some reason, I can not star this...so I’ll just say what an exquisite car!

I look forward to your future stories about coolant leaks and mistresses.

You magnificent madman.
Here, you are going to need this:

Did you know that 75% of Jags are still on the road, and 25% made it home?
But seriously, good luck!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:14 |

Since you have a Jaaaaaggggg, you wont have to pay for dinner ever again!

I’m loving this trip computer and authentic Jaguar cassette player.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:19 |

So did it come with a full set of jackstands for it to sit on in your driveway, or do you have to buy your own?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:22 |

I love this instrument panel! Super cool purchase!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:24 |

love the patina on this logo
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:24 |

This is quite frankly the best decision you have ever made. Congratulations, and the best of luck.

Meh, my 4 cylinder petrol Brit from the same-ish era puts out about 16 hp per cylinder :/
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:29 |

MMMMMMMMMMM. You chose.....WISELY.
I saw one of these in white while getting lunch a few years ago and have been quietly adoring them since. They’re just spectacular to look at in real life aren’t they? And who could hate a v12? WHO?!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:29 |

Life is too short to drive boring cars, if you can afford otherwise.
Or at least to appear to afford otherwise.
It is a pretty car, aside from the steering wheel. It needs something more classic.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:30 |

Shouldn’t need any - Jaguar V12s are equipped with a smoke generator from the factory. It’s a complex but ingenious system of 25 year old rubber fuel lines.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:30 |

I second this. And then post LOTS OF VIDEOS!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:33 |

I love you.

I like the reminder on the tach.
Hey! 12 Cylinders!

I think you’re insane, but I applaud you sir.

A car that I’ve always wanted but was afraid to follow through on. Go with god.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:42 |

I love it, but you will probably be needing this sooner than later.

one of my neighbours has one in a dark green. quite a machine.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:47 |

I see one of these nearly daily, it’s always parked at the neighborhood service shop.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:53 |

Do I think this is an epic purchase?
Is British Racing green, green ?
(What does that mean?)
Yes. Epic !
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:56 |

Would you believe, a General Motors/Detroit Diesel 6.2 V8 is even worse? 16.2 hp/cylinder originally *and* sub 21 hp/liter. The SIII engine crushes that at over 29.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 16:58 |

I’m trying to remember if the rear suspension on yours is one of the intermediate-year Dana-axle ones. There are a couple of years in the late 80s where the rear axle doesn’t share parts with most of the rest. That being said, with zero fucks given, you can just swap the whole unit for another one cheap if you have to.

One of us! One of us!
Welcome to the few, the proud, the stranded...the owners of V12 Jaguars.
Seriously though, that's a really pretty XJS. I love the blue on blue, and it looks super clean. Good luck with it, they're not nearly as bad as everybody likes to think they are...and when they work, there's really nothing like them.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 17:21 |
|
Congrats! Looks real clean, I hope you have good luck with it
![]() 07/22/2015 at 17:32 |

The roadster is coming along, it now has patches where holes in the frame used to be! And yes, the Jag purrs beautifully, although a bit too quietly.

As someone who aspires to either a W12 Phaeton or an 850Ci, you are a better man than I could even dream to be.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 17:51 |
|
Good for you.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 17:54 |
|
Yeah that is quite under powered especially when you consider the car that everyone claims doesn’t have enough power beats it.
197bhp / H4 = 49.25hp/cyl
![]() 07/22/2015 at 17:57 |
|
I’d say oppo approves.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 18:03 |
|
Toyobaru has 49.25hp/cyl? HOLY SMOKES!!!
My smart is only like 70hp / I3 = 23.33hp/cyl.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 18:05 |
|
Hopefully you have good luck man, you are a braver man than I. For as much as I want a V12 XJS, I don't want to deal with the potential problems. God speed son.

Would recommend if Kinja would let me.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 18:20 |

Pah.
4.27 bhp/litre:
![]() 07/22/2015 at 18:20 |

This isn’t THE Detroit diesel is it? The one that almost turned an entire nation to the ‘NO’ position?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 18:30 |
|
Are you going to introduce yourself as someone who drives a jaaaaaaaaaaaggggg?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 19:00 |
|
This has always been the shame of this car
![]() 07/22/2015 at 19:05 |

You bet your ass I am

Oh LAURDY. We’re now true brethren, keeping these mythical beasts on the road.
Keep Oppo V12.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:46 |

It’s a really interesting car, I’m excited to experience it!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:47 |

Mmmmm Mercedes V12.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:49 |
|
Me too
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:49 |

This would be the generally reliable but incredibly boring C/K series pickup truck diesel. Not the small block based Olds 350 of nope.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:49 |
|
I want that wheel!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:50 |
|
It really has a presence in person, and it’s actually really low!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:55 |
|
It was the previous owner’s daily summer driver, he’s a hero.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 22:56 |
|
It was very well taken care of, that’s for sure!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 23:07 |
|
please note that asking oppo about insane car purchases is like asking an addict if the heroin was a good choice
![]() 07/22/2015 at 23:11 |
|
Back at you, Honda Bro.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 23:15 |

Next up an Oppo just needs to pick up an 850CSi, and the three of us need to get together. The trifecta of late 80’s, early-mid 90’s V12s. The stuff dreams are made of (nightmares are dreams too).
![]() 07/23/2015 at 02:51 |

Your smart is almost as powerful (per cyl) as a v12 Jaaaaag lol
