Kinja'd!!!

I played my first game of disc golf on Friday and I thought it was great fun! I play ultimate all the time so throwing a disc around comes naturally to me. This was an interesting spin on the sport so I just bought an actual disc golf set to play some more. They have courses set up all over the place for free so I definitely will play some more. While camping this coming weekend, I am definitely gonna check out the course where I am staying (Hickory Run State Park in Jim Thorpe, PA). Anyone else play?

Fun fact: The Raleigh tryouts for the national disc golf championships (which apparently is a thing) was at my school.

I should start playing, though. It looks like fun.

I have not played in a while but Disc Golf is a great game! I was thinking about it yesterday when I was in the yard throwing the frisbee to my dog. I threw one disc style with my pointer finger and it S curved so nice, then landed right in my fiance’s orange tree pot lol (the pot is about the same size as a disc golf goal) I was so pleased with myself lol.

It seems to be popular with college kids or the outdoorsy folks over here. Seems like it’d be fun though.

I played a lot in high school just for fun. It’s a good time. I actually throw my disk kind of like a sidearm throwing star. I grab it with my thumb and index finger and place my index finger under the lip. In my experience, I can throw longer and straighter that way.

There was a course set up at my university so I played a bunch when I was in college - was great fun. There are some really cool courses out there - I have friends who are super in to it and seek out places to play. Most fun was playing in early spring when it was getting warm out but there were still a couple of feet of snow on the ground!

haha neither have I, would make running around for ultimate a bit more difficult.

Yeah, nobody needs to catch it so throwing a blade that rolls really far certainly sounds pretty effective.

I love to play frolf/frisbee golf/disc golf/whatever. There are 4 courses around me, all less than 45 minutes away. Since you know ultimate you’re ahead of the game. Careful, though, my friends are the guys who carry 12+ discs for a single round. They’re cheap enough that buying discs can be addicting.

I imagine it being rather fun to play in the snow. Just make sure you don’t use a white disc lol

I’ve been toying around with it for a few years just for fun, I suck at it though :) But we have one of the best courses in the country just a km or so from my front door.

I don’t play Frolf because I don’t longboard or wear a seashell necklace.

I played it a few times but just used a regular frisbee. It was still fun and way more interesting than actual golf.

Yup, first time playing we just used regular ultimate Frisbees. Seemed to make the game a little bit harder but it was still very fun. I figured I would try a real set since I found one on Amazon for $20.

I saw people that were playing on campus at college but they were just making up the holes as they went along. Made the game seem much more confusing. Now that I played on an actual course, it makes a lot more sense.

I don't even play enough to merit buying a set for even $20

Played in college on the weekends. Had a pretty decent driver, but that’s all I had. Our course on campus wasn’t the greatest, but it was better than doing homework doing nothing. I enjoyed it.

The driver seems to be the most important one just to get proper distance. An ultimate disc doesn’t seem to fly nearly as far as those. For the accuracy part, you just gotta be good at throwing a Frisbee lol.

I was always that asshole who would just crank it when I threw and hoped it would either cut back after passing the goal (?) or hit a tree before going onto the next green. Also, thumb on top, index finger on the inside lip when driving; typical Frisbee throw when putting.

It’s great fun. I’ve been playing for a long time and now I’m introducing my kids to the game. The only problem is the unseemly element that plagues the course. Early mornings seem to be the best time to play as most of them are too busy sleeping off their previous night’s entertainment.

Fellow Flatballer here. Disc golf is pretty addicting. Just find a few discs you are good with and like how they fade. Otherwise you will end up like me, with 20+ discs and I only throw 4-5 on a regular basis haha. Unfortunately lots of Disc golf does a number on your hucking game for Ultimate.....

Where have you been!? Just to show my age, I’ve been playing since before I got married, and that was in 1984. I remember as a teen seeing someone playing it just using a marked limb on a tree in the park across from my Gram’s house. I still play occasionally, and my wife and kids and grandson all play. Courses are all over the place and more are being built all the time. I keep a few disks in my car all the time, just in case I feel like playing a few holes. I can count at least 6 between where I work and home. Simple, fun, cheap, what else could you ask for.

I’ve only played one local course so far. I plan to check out more though. They seem to often be at campgrounds so I’ll definitely check it out since I camp a lot.

Haha was bored and decided to see if anyone posted anything disc golf related on Oppo. Came across this old post. Are you still playing? Spring through fall I probably play 6 times a week. In the winter I help run a team through the winter in New England. Our division travels from Maine, NH, and Mass. Other divisions see NY and CT as well. Had to play in a snow storm last Saturday. Our second round of the day dropped about 2 inches on us in those 2 hours.

Well I recently lost my favorite driver so I need to buy another before I want to play again. But yeah I tend to play when the weather is nice and I’m not already playing ultimate or autocrossing
