I have dropped the regular price to $800, Oppo price to $700 OBO. So far, I have had one person view the car, with no follow up. Wish me luck.

Is this all because of the broken rear bumper? I’m sure you can reinforce it somehow to pass inspection.

Broken bumper, rear frame rail extension that needs to be welded in, gaskets, tires, a ball joint, brakes, a tune-up, and a bunch of other little things.

Most of that’s just time and elbow grease.

And money, money that I don't have.

Tires and brakes are expendable. Those are expenses that just come with owning a car. Ball joints and gaskets are cheap, and welding is just time.

Yeah, but I can't weld. Plus, I'm moving across the country and I'm not sure if the car will make it.

Not knowing how to weld is what 35 year old cars in the rust belt are for.

Or 42 year old cars!
Bringing my ‘73 Buick back to solid metal life is what gave me the desire to finally learn welding!
It’s almost ready for paint - just a few more things that need fixing (leak around the rear window)

What is it and where are you?

1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham Sedan, with the original 305 in it. It will happily accept a 350. I’m in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. It's $540 US at list price, but I'm sure I could knock a bit off that price for you.

Damn. I’m in CO. That’s a bit too far atm.
I’ve got a truck and trailer, but I just can’t go that far, at least for a few more months. (I don’t get my licence until September)

Damn. I'm moving at the end of August.

To where?

British Columbia.

A nice upgrade. :P
Too bad. I’d love a project car.

to put my best salesman face on, how much would I have to knock off the price to get you into this car.

Unfortunately, even free wouldn’t do it.
Until I have a licence, I can’t just take a week long road trip.
I don’t turn 16 until September 30, IF you can move the car with you, I may be able to come get it in October.

Hmmm. Is there an opponaut in your area with a license that can help you out?

Not sure. I’ll see what I can manage. Sleeping in the bed could make this a 5 day trip.
About $1000 in gas though. I’ll talk to some people and see what can be done.

Sounds good. I'll see how much I can knock off the price.

I will never get tired of seeing that thing. Hows the EFI working?

It’s freaking incredible. I really, really need to do some onboard filming. It’s got a super touchy throttle (a little too much so at times), but since it’s all computer controlled, we’ve been playing with the timing at idle/off idle to dampen it a little, make it more streetable. The control is great, it doest’t get hot cruising on the highway anymore (the old motor ran lean and had a little too much timing I think), and oh god is it a lot of power.
I spent a week or so tinkering with the cold start settings, you no longer need to touch the throttle to start it when cold or hot. All kinds of fun... I don’t have any idea how to share it all with Oppo...

That’s so darn cool. You should shoot a short video!

I still need to buy a welder. It’s the only tool I’m really missing. I need to do a bit of metal work on both my Lincoln and my truck and I want to do it right. I’ve never touched a welder before but in the words of the wise Jeremy Clarkson “How hard can it be?”
cut metal to size, prep for welding, lots of spot welds so it doesn’t warp, grind, fill, paint.

Sure, but I don’t know what to take video of! I guess I could show the laptop screen... ??? What would people want to see? Besides big cars doing fun burnouts!

I use the welders at the local voc-tech high schools evening classes. I take auto body class there, great instructors and full access to the welding equipment, spray booths etc. I need to get the back window out of my car before the next session starts so I can repair that rust. (cut/replace/weld).

I really wish I could afford it.
