So I just talked to the contractor and we are going to start demolition of things on Monday. So my day will be in the kitchen cleaning and moving everything possible out of the kitchen. But it’s worth it, right?

Keep an eye on your contractor if you can. Be firm on what you want the outcome to be/look like. Negotiate if they try to change prices.

Yes, you not only need to reclaim your space, but it does feel good to tear shit up.

Fortunately, there is a signed contract, which I’ve already made some changes to, and I keep all communications and invoices/estimates/receipts in a binder, and they do the same, so we all know what stage we are at in the project.
The contractor is a husband/wife team (He’s contractor, she is the designer), and I’ve worked with them before, and had a good experience, so I’m confident that we are on the same page as to what the result should look like.

You’re probably going to go through the 5 stages of greif, maybe twice.. In the end though it’ll feel good.

We just remodeled our old house, and like with all things, you get what you pay for. Our contractor did an okay job, but we were not impressed. Alas, they were all we could afford.
In retrospect, we should have printed a list of the work we wanted done rather than assuming the contractor would notice related projects and ask if they should do that as well. For instance, we needed gutters and soffits. They had the gutters done because it was on the list, but we had to have them come back and do the soffits even though it was blatantly obvious they needed done as well.

If you hate your old kitchen, then it’s worth it.
If you don’t hate your old kitchen, then it isn’t worth it.

I’ve designed, demo’d, and rebuilt a lot of stuff. I can help with any questions

Since the entire kitchen is being demolished and a wall removed, it’s going to cost a pretty penny to get it done right.

It’s 30 years old builders’ grade crap. And the countertops are granite floor tile that the previous owner laid on backing, rather than purchasing granite slabs.
It needs to go.

Ugh, nothing says amatuer home owner crap like a granite tile counter. I HATE that crap.

Oh man... sounds brutal... floor tile as a counter top... ugh...

Making things even more unpossible. That’s apparently what the previous owners did.
The refrigerator, however, is mine. Because they took the one that was there, even though it wasn’t in the contract for them to do so.
