I’ve had nothing overly bad happen compared to those that’ve posted tonight, but I’m 28 with two degrees - a $40,000 education, still living at home and still trying to find a full-time job with no girlfriend and working at the local donut shop to keep some income (i.e. Tim Hortons for all my fellow Canadian Opponauts)...so I vaguely know what feeling a bit lost is like (although not to the scale some of you poor souls are).
In the words of Red Green, “we’re all in this together” - chin up ladies and gents and I sincerely hope all works out for you folks.
Here’s a well-known cheery little Italian runabout in its element for your time, and also to help try bringing a small grin back to your faces...
Goodnight Oppo.

At this point in the night, Red Green appears to be the overarching father figure of Oppositelock.

Pray to your God. Stay positive. Good things happen to good people.

Fiats and Tim Hortons are both pretty happy things. Thanks :)

I’m sorry to hear that man. All I can tell you is to stay optimistic and that sometimes when you least expect it, things happen. :)

If you have a degree, apply for a federal government job. It can take some work to get one but it’s worth the effort. You may be baited with “term” positions. Eff that. Hold out. Don’t accept any offers that aren’t “indeterminate” (aka “permanent”).

“Donut holes” basically. Little round donut balls the size of the hole from the middle of a donut.

The downside is most federal positions require you to be billingual, don’t they? (Which I am not).

This is a myth that has to die, now.
Positions that require bilingualism:
if you’re supervising (since your subordinates are entitled to have discussions in the official language of their choice)
if you deal with the public
translators (duh)
if providing service, internally, like labour relations officers, communications officers etc where, again, you’re talking to people who might want to speak to you in their own first language
I don’t have stats in front of me but they’re readily available. Pulling a number out of thin air, I suspect only about half of fed positions require bilingualism.
