I’m embarrassed that Oppo and Jalopnik are part of this.
Jalopnik should go its own way.

What’d they do?

Outed a closeted gay man (Tim Geithner’s brother, actually, and Conde Nast’s CFO) when the gay escort he hired tried to blackmail him, then when Geithner wouldn’t pay up, the escort went to Gawker. Then Gawker published the story of how Geithner hired the guy to have sex with him and then got blackmailed.
Jordan Sargent is a bad writer and a bad human being.

That’s disgusting. So not cool.

Wow that’s messed up. So this guy wants to keep his situation a secret? Yeah, let’s publish an artible about it! Brilliant!
What a bunch of dicks. No pun intended.

I actually found someone who supported outing him because he was going to cheat on his wife. Yeah that’s really shitty but that’s a personal matter, not something to plaster all over the internet for no reason... What a terrible article.

Gawker is full of the dumbest people on the internet. They claim they’re for equal racial rights, but they end up ridiculing people. The article saying that Bristol Palin should get an abortion was probably one of the ugliest, most savage articles I’d ever seen online.

That article was horrific.

That’s just jacked up

This isn’t so unusual for Gawker, from what I’ve heard.

“article”
I don’t really consider anything on Gawker.com an “article” as almost none of it has any true editorial content whatsoever.

Very true. I don’t know what to call them though, post doesn’t work either. Maybe “childish scrawl” fits.

It really hard to tell the difference sometimes between Gawker and the people they are attacking. Most of the time they sound the same (hateful, intolerant); they’re just standing on different soapboxes.
Honestly, I’ve seen more rational talk on /b/. 4chan is less hateful than Gawker. Yeah, if you just scroll through /b/ you’ll see some hateful shit, but most of the time it’s just people trying to rustle jimmies. Very few people there truely believe what they say. As I read on Reddit one time: “Reddit is where dumb people go to act smart, 4chan is where smart people go to act dumb.” I feel like you can replace Reddit with Gawker and it would be even more true. I see so much less hate and vile spewings over a week on Reddit than I do after spending 5 minutes on Gawker.

I just call them blog posts because that’s what they are. Most the time they literally just link to another reputable news article and write a 3 sentence paragraph summarizing or giving their opinion.. Which about 80% of the time I’m okay with, but this... This is pathetic and I hope the David Geithner sues this company into oblivion...

Can we start an oppo petition for jalopnik to secede from gawker? I actually support that idea wholeheartedly.

Agreed. Then we can purchase Kinja for the one penny that it’s worth when Gawker is dead and rename it oppo land. Also we should get some smart people to fix it.
