I went to one of my dad’s friend’s house last night, less than a mile from our humble abode. I don’t normally tag along to my parent’s social events, but this time I made an exception. This gentleman has a “gallery” section of his house, but the art in question is mostly of the automotive variety. The star of the show is his 1966 Ford GT40 MkI, which Peter Sutcliffe raced in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, and which won its class at Pebble Beach in 2013.

On the newer end of the Le Mans spectrum, he has a 2001 Audi R8 which placed second in LeMans in 2001 and 2002 (and inexplicably has the name of the driver that placed 1st both years on it).

This AC/Shelby Cobra 427 has been with the family since it was less than a year old. It is all-original.

There’s a couple old race cars, including an Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint:

And this little Lotus race car.

Back on the newer side of things, there’s this Porsche Cayman race car that they recently raced at Sebring:

And a 2005 Ford GT to go with the ‘66. And yes, I believe he is ordering/has ordered a 2016 GT.

Moving down the wheel count we find a little Messerschmitt microcar.

And a pair of stunning motorcycles, a 1933 BMW and a 1965 DKW Hummel 155. That one went to Pebble Beach in 2012.

All in all, not a bad little collection. The “garage” doesn’t suck either.

Damn. And I thought I had quite the collection besides the diesel/wagon/manual/Focus appliance. Having said that, had I had the collection of that guy I’d be afraid to even park those outside after/during use.

Apart from the R8, all of them get driven at least a little. I’ve seen the Cobra out on the streets, and I know several of them get tracked.
