How could one not love all of the above. Alright, owning one would probably start some sort of dislike but at least they look awesome. That CD!

Oh, man, that CD is something. I’d own it just to look at. I know someone who has a BT. He loves it, but doesn’t drive it much to save it because he knows it’ll stop working at any minute. That little Simca is probably the most reliable of the group. I’ve always wanted to find one of those. They sold them here in Chrysler dealerships briefly.

The 1000 is a dear one to me, because of my granddad. But you knew that already. And if I ever run into a decent one for a good price it will be bought. It has to be that golden color and the last gen my granddad drove though. These are getting rare over here as well, even in France.

I need to get a CD in 1/43 for French Friday!!!!

It’s EXACTLY like that one. The color, the wheels. Even the license plate! Well, not sure about that last part. Love it. I’m still looking for a decent 1/43. I have a 3” I did one of my first French Fridays about . But I want a golden one of that as well.

That is a Dutch plate, right? This is the only gold 1/43 I could find on a quick search. It’s got a bit of a patina, but I like the sticker on the hood.

The car does look great in that gold. I’m used them being white. Was that a big color?

Kinja'd!!!0

White a big color? Not over here, we got a saying ‘Met een witte blijf je zitten’. Meaning ‘You’ll never get rid of a white one (car)‘. In Asia and South Africa most of the cars seem to be white though. Probably a culture and climate thing...

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
07/19/2015 at 21:09

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s right. You told me that before. I think for some reason these days, people don’t want their car to stand out color-wise. I don’t know when that started. Bright colors are seen as gauche. Plus, I guess white paint is cheap.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
07/20/2015 at 03:38

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, it’s a bit strange. When I buy stuff for my kitchen or bathroom I tend to think ‘what will this do in terms of re-sale’ and end up with non out-standing colors. When it comes to cars I just get what I like. Hence the white Porsche and Polo. Hence the bright blue Volvo.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
07/21/2015 at 00:49

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, that makes sense. The house is the bigger investment. And, you can still decorate it with stuff that isn’t permanent. You’re a car guy, so you want those to be as personal as possible.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
07/21/2015 at 02:34

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, it still is a bit odd as I plan on living in this house for at least 30 years. It’s that nicely situated!

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
07/22/2015 at 00:36

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, then maybe do the bathroom in Martini Racing stripes.

What kind of condition was the old house in? Everyone remodels these days whether they need to or not.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
07/22/2015 at 03:16

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh, it’s condition was okay, it was just a small house with a huge (in Dutch housing-culture) garage. And now they’re making a more to today’s standards house of it with a larger living, but eating up their garden. And making the garage less easier accessible.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris

Kinja'd!!!1

Haha... Not just that. Also create a house totally standing out in it’s environment. When it comes to it’s value that is (I would never buy such a house in that street so to speak).

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
07/23/2015 at 17:19

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s interesting. Do you have Homeowner’s Associations in Holland? Over here, in some neighborhoods, there’s a committee that tells you what you are and aren’t allowed to do to your house.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
07/24/2015 at 02:43

Kinja'd!!!1

We don’t have these in ‘some neighborhoods’, the “Welstands Commissie” is a full fledged governmental organization. Often criticized, but when you pass the Belgian border you can clearly tell the Belgians don’t have such a thing. Really. And then you start appreciating such organizations (while most of the time you curse them of course).

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
07/24/2015 at 02:56

Kinja'd!!!1

Ha. Those goddam Belgians. Yeah, I imagine they’re annoying if you live with one, but they do keep the neighborhood looking nice. They can just get a little out of hand. People let the power go to their heads. And, here, they can charge a lot of money for their b.s.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
07/24/2015 at 04:53

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, over here we just have gotten to far with these kind of committees. So we’re de-regulating it a bit again luckily. But you wouldn’t want the Belgian situation, really. A friend of mine in Antwerp had part of his neighbor’s house being built over his, that really looked ridiculous.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
07/24/2015 at 23:35

Kinja'd!!!1

Whoa, that sounds absurd even for Belgians. I didn’t know it was that crazy. There does need to be a happy median. People over here are really picky about how many cars you can have in your driveway which I get. It just means when I eventually buy a house it’s going to have to be way out away from civilization.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/08/2015 at 16:47

Kinja'd!!!1

If you ever end up over here you won’t believe what you see when you cross the border. Instant-other-country-appeal. I love Belgium. You can tell by the roads (potholes) as well btw when you crossed that border.

Belgium was one of the first european countries to have streetlights on their highways completely. And were pretty proud of that fact. Until some (I believe German) politician stated Belgium was forced to do so by the insurance companies if they wanted those to keep paying for all the damages done to roadgoing cars. Something like that, I’ll have to look it up. And stop drinking those Martinis...

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
08/10/2015 at 00:33

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s like going from the U.S. into Mexico. Or, Orange County into Los Angeles County. L.A. has so many cars and roads they can’t keep up.

Interesting. So, they installed streetlamps instead of fixing the roads? So, they could see all the potholes?

Me and some friends used to sail to Oostende once a year, always epic trips. Back then good ol’ England had a mandatory closing time of 11 o’clock for pubs so many Brits took the boat to Oostende, got wasted there and took the first boat (leaving around 6 o’clock in the morning) back home sleeping their hangover off on board. Two places I’ll never forget, the restaurant ‘Koekoek’ in which all you could order was chicken (either half or a whole one) with bread. Or chicken with fries. And second one was ‘Ron’s Pub’ featuring ‘Singalongs with organ music’. Ron was British, the floor-carpet went all the way up to half the walls and the guests were all way over 40+ British and extremely drunk. And we ourselves of course, almost in our 30’s. Alfred even was hit on by an old tart, now I can’t stop seeing him releasing his face from the boobs of that old woman after she took it and pressed it hard between ‘m, the look on his face: EPIC!!!!

I love Belgium. Antwerp is just a 30min drive. And epic as HELL!

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha. Amazing. And most definitely typically British. Since they can’t have an empire any more, they just invade countries to get drunk. That carpet thing sounds positively disgusting. And the chicken thing reminds me of this Puerto Rican restaurant I once went to in Hoboken, New Jersey (both my father, and Frank Sinatra’s hometown) where I ordered a chicken sandwich and got a chicken leg, complete with bone, between two pieces of bread.

It certainly is no suburb with all kinds of villas. Factories in Belgium are everywhere, preferably next to residential areas, especially when chemicals are involved. My brother-in-law lives near Gent in Belgium: the location of his house (next to a chemical plant) probably would have been forbidden over here. I LOVE BELGIUM!

Oh, yeah. I’ve read about that before. So bizarre. I love that there are enclaves inside of enclaves. It’s like Inception. How come they keep it like that? The Belgians really care that much? Are their parcels run down the actual country?

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/17/2015 at 03:06

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s part of the Heritage. And the reason every weekend lots of tourists come by. Until like 15 years ago laws differed a lot when it comes to opening times and stuff. So this town was a complete anarchy and attracted many to come and see it all. Can you even imagine how it must have been to get a proper phone-connection in the old days? One of my first jobs was to get a Dutch phone ‘land-line’ in Germany just over (40 meters!) the border. That took us over 7 months to realize just getting all legal stuff agreed upon!

Nowadays there are not much practical issues anymore, I’m sure of that. And in World War I, in which we (the Dutch) didn’t compete, these were the only free Belgian parts on the world I suppose ;-)

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/18/2015 at 04:48

Kinja'd!!!1

It was not just a nightmare, it also created hilarious situations. In general, the rule is: If the door of a house is on Belgian soil it’s a Belgian address, it it’s Dutch it’s Dutch. As often the border went straight through a house. And to show what country a house was in the house number was accompanied with the country’s flag.

But what when the border even goes straight through the door? Then this is the result:

Kinja'd!!!

And owners of such buildings get very creative on when to use their Belgian or Dutch laws. Such a situation was with a local ‘amateur’-cinema as well. And while ‘Turks Fruit’, a Dutch movie from the ‘70’s with some “explicit” content (we Dutch are good in that!), was forbidden to be shown to large groups, all the owner of the Cinema did was... Put the projector on the Dutch part of the Cinema.

I could go on for hours. I love Baarle-Nassau/Hertog. Everywhere you walk you can see where the border is actually:

That is so funny. The Verhoeven film, Turkish Delight? That movie’s great. I’ve always been a big Verhoeven fan. Robocop and Starship Troopers are two of my favorites.

You know, when I was in grad school, I worked with a Dutch guy on a movie I wrote. Seth Kamphuijs. He apparently had been on Dutch MTV before and he has a tiny part in the movie Black Book that Verhoeven directed.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee

Kinja'd!!!1

Yep, Turkish delight! Did that even end up in the USA? Robocop was awesome and I was totally impressed by Starship Troopers. Even liked Total Recall. And... Showgirls as well. I admit it. Never understood why it was totally degraded by international critics. It’s not his best but a 4.5 on IMDB: Come on! His best movie however is an old one: Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange). And Black Book finally got him back in the Netherlands, with a huge bang I must say. Black Book had it’s flaws but was a great production, I was working in The Hague when they shot parts of it over there.

Haha, you know Seth! He has an American mother but you probably knew that already. Ever saw his “Through the Air to Calais or the Wonderful Cruise of Blanchard’s Balloon”?

Kinja'd!!!1

Haha. Did you look that up? Through the Air to Calais is my movie. It didn’t turn out as good as we wanted it to, but it was fun to make. It’s a true story as well.

I think Turkish Delight was released in America back in the day. After he became popular in the 80’s, all his films came out here on video. Soldier of Orange is great. His early Dutch films are really interesting. When we made the balloon movie, Caspar Van Dien told us some great stories about working on Starship Troopers. Verhoeven sounds like a madman. But, in a fun way. I’ve always liked Showgirls, too. I saw it in the theater when it came out and thought it was so much fun. People bad-mouthed it, but I was like, it’s hilarious. It’s meant to be campy. It seems like folks have finally caught on, though. They screen it at midnight now and it has a big cult following.

Haha, had to look that up. Knew his name, couldn’t connect it to a face. Now I know, he played Rachelle (Carice van Houten, of Game of Thrones Fame)’s brother in Black Book. Amazing you made that film together, Wiki said it even won a prize at the 2010 Amsterdam Film Festival, good for you! Can I see it somewhere?

You know his partner, Alex Israel, as well? They run a production company together, Consequence Media. If you need a wheelbarrow to shoot your Young Hitler in love movie...

Most criticism back then on Showgirls was that it was demeaning to women while actually all you see is how pathetic we men are. So women will do demeaning things. Sort of.

We didn’t have to trick him. He doesn’t really get big roles any more and he had a great time. His wife is actually a Serbian princess and she gave us money to help finish the movie. So, on the credits it says Produced By Catherine Oxenberg Princess of whatever it is she’s princess of. (I actually think it’s her mother who is the real princess, but the daughter of a princess is a princess as far as I’m concerned.)

Yeah, Alex is Jewish. I thought he lived here, but maybe not.

But you didn’t go to Amsterdam to get that award?

A princess is a princess. Or maybe it ends after being x-many steps away from the king/queen? I don’t understand royalty/nobility one bit. I love our Queen though.

The info I found on Seth was from Wiki. Can’t find much on that Consequence Media around here though. I see he was supposed to host an american show “Life after Film School” on Fox Movie Channel.

As great I thought Showgirls was, I had fairly nothing with Striptease. Okay, maybe with Demi. From Striptease is a small step to another movie hosting Burt Reynolds: Boogie Nights. That one I find truly epic.

Me and the director were not able to make it to Amsterdam, no. I guess Seth has the award somewhere. Unless it’s only an award in name and not an actual trophy, or something. But, it’s nice to know we’re appreciated over there. I think it’s the only award we won. Maybe I should just move to The Netherlands. All my biggest fans are there.

She definitely looked like a princess. She was an actress, too, back in the 80’s. Here she is on the cover of Cosmo:

Kinja'd!!!

Striptease wasn’t very good, no. The book was great, though. The guy who wrote it, Carl Hiaasen (that looks like a Dutch name, no?) writes some hilarious novels that all take place in Florida. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Boogie Nights for some reason. I’ll have to watch it again. Maybe I missed something the first time. It does have great cinematography.

Hahaha, he married Amanda Carrington!!!! That’s one classy lady, dear . Just don’t read the ‘personal life’ piece on wiki with 9-days marriages and a son whose father still has not been ‘publicly identified’. She definitely looked like a princess. Did you meet her as well during filming your project? And what was your part in creating it?

Hiaasen sounds a bit Finnish or Scandinavian to me, if it was Dutch it would have been Haasen. Or even better: “de Haas”. Never heard of the guy. So what’s the Florida connection?

Someone who comes up with the name Dirk Diggler must be epic. And every movie starring Heather Graham and John C. Reilly I enjoy anyway. Speaking of the latter: Did you see Walk Hard? I COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING WHEN WATCHING THAT ONE!!!!

Kinja'd!!!1

Was Dynasty popular over there? She is a very classy lady despite what Wiki says. Princesses always lead interesting lives. She and Caspar seem quite happy now. They have some good looking kids. I did meet her once. She’s very nice and funny. I didn’t get any Joan Collins stories, though, unfortunately. I did all the research and wrote the script for the movie. Seth was the producer and my friend Joe directed it. It was our thesis project in graduate school. It was a heck of an ambitious project.

Hiaasen used to write for a newspaper in Florida and then took all he learned and now writes these satirical novels set there. They’re usually about some kind of corruption, government or otherwise. Really funny stuff.

Walk Hard is a classic. Dewey Cox. Brilliant. A friend of mine actually wrote a few of the songs in that movie. I could watch John C. Reilly do anything. Have you seen his Steve Brule character?

Dynasty was quite popular indeed. And I believe she’s classy, I just couldn’t resist after reading that wiki. She is a looker. And you really need to send me a copy, I’m very curious about it!

THE WRONG KID DIED! The “Walk Hard”-song it self is epic. But best song was the Mariachi-styled song “Guilty as Charged”. Let me introduce you to my rock-heard fist. God I must see it again, that one brought me so much laughter. I have a short clip from me blasting up the Gotthart in my Z4 while “Walk Hard” is playing on it’s audio-system. God I miss that car.

I saw that Brule-character before, somehow he’s always casted for not being smart. I wonder where that’s coming from...

I will put a copy in the mail shortly. I know I already have your address. It’s too bad we didn’t get her in the movie.

All those songs are really great. My friend Charlie wrote “Let’s Duet” which is a hilarious one. And another, “Guilty as Charged,” which I don’t remember as well. His father was in an old new wave band, Animotion. They had that song “Obsession” back in the 80’s.

I’ll have to watch it again, too. That post-orgy scene with that guy’s dick right in front of the camera kills me.

He does play a great idiot. But, he’s also done some serious parts. I remember he was good in Gangs of New York.

Scientologist? Good lord. Scary Sect. I know not much about it but the times they were in publicity it was so incredibly negative...

Yeah, Scientology is complete bullshit. It’s really insane if you read about it. There was a very documentary all about it recently. Tom Cruise is their biggest member.

I’ve seen some footage of members harassing an ex-member’s house all the time. Total lunatics. Live and let live isn’t their motto.

I’ve been thinking about my own life-motto lately. I think it’s “Every day another motto ”.

They’re completely out of their minds. Some of them sign billion year contracts. And they think aliens who live in volcanos invade their brains, or something.

Haha. My motto is: no mottos.
