And I lost many IQ points.
First of all, running up to a random guy in his “modified” GTO and offering to race him ON THE STREET for $100 is retarded. If you know you’re going to win straight away, why bet money? It’s unfair.
Secondly, to the Asian kid in the GT-R: I don’t care if your GT-R has A/C. Racecars don’t have A/C. Stop shoving it everyone’s faces that your car has A/C and other people’s cars don’t and that “they’ll be sweating while I beat them with A/C”.
Hosting a drag race? Let’s not go to a professional drag strip, let’s host it on a quiet side street and use a FLASHLIGHT to start the race.
Who the heck uses a flashlight to initiate a race? Can’t you do the classic “swing the arms down” like in Need for Speed or something?
I hated it when they talked about each car’s setup. What the hell do you mean when you say “this guy uses big tires and this guy uses small tires”? And do racers have no creativity? All of them used “big-block/small-block Chevy engines”. No rotaries? Diesels? Turbos?
All the drivers who lost used the same excuses.
“I missed a gear”
“I spun at the start”
“I lost traction”
“Something broke on the car”
The show I watched before Street Outlaws was much more entertaining. (for those of you wondering, it’s called “Cuban Chrome”) Why do they still air Street Outlaws? Why???
It encourages illegal activity and is a hazard to people in the area in all ways. And frankly, the people in this show should be fined/arrested.

It’s a stupid show. Not just from a “they’re doing illegal stuff and it’s bad”, but rather from a “the writing sucks and the characters are all stereotypes” perspective.
One small correction. Race cars do have A/C now.

My dad watches street outlaws and loves it. I personally will watch it alittle but for the most part I would rather watch something else. Everyone seems kinda dumb and it seems scripted. These guys might be shown racing on a “quiet” road but in reality it is probably a closed off by the police before filming. If they were actually racing on the street I feel like they would be getting busted every week. It’s not like the police are deaf, blind and dumb. The Farmtruck guys are pretty entertaining thou.

It is. All the characters are the stereotypical “bro racer” type of people.
Really? I thought most race cars had simple systems to take in air from outside and that was it. Can you tell me which ones have A/C?

They don’t have cabin A/C, but they do have a very street car-esque system in the NISMO GT cars. It even uses a compressor on the engine!

You probably don’t remember it but Toad started the drag race in American Graffiti with a flashlight. It’s still dumb, but it’s not unheard of. And plenty of racecars have A/C these days. Your major point that it’s a dumb show showing idiots doing dumb things stands.

Back in the 50s/60s they used a flashlight, just watch American Graffiti .
Secondly, the show is fake, the so-called “street races” are done on closed roads with EMTs and whatnot on hand, basically everything you’d find at a dragstrip except it’s on a police-closed road.
Funny tidbit, a few years ago they filmed a couple races on a “public road” that ironically ran alongside an NHRA National-level racetrack, when most the drivers showed up to the road they were like “Why don’t we just race at the dragstrip? It’s right there!”

I’m confident Farmtruck & AZN could support their own show. Those guys are hilarious. The only reason I watch is because of them.

I guess the whole point of the flashlight is that it’s harder to drivers to time their launches. When Pinks was a thing, it was timing your launch the moment the guy’s elbows dropped to get the fastest legal reaction time. The flashlight also allows for replays to see if a racer jumps the start early by launching before the light comes on. A lot easier to track than a guy’s twitching arms.
The show’s still crap.

Show is rigged. Texas guys were told to lose to the Oklahoma dimwits.

I suspect they have closed the road for their show, no way they could get insurance if not, but the big problem is that they make it LOOK illegal and are encouraging illegal street racing to continue. At least “Pinks” was always done at a track. I won’t watch street outlaws, ever, unless they change their model to using a dragstrip. There’s no reason to encourage illegal street racing when there are so many bystander deaths.

“classic, just like on need for speed”
“If you know you’re going to win straight away, why bet money?” so you can make money?
“And do racers have no creativity? All of them used “big-block/small-block Chevy engines” No rotaries? Diesels? Turbos?” Because it’s easier to make a V8 fast, and they’re all pretty much Chevies. Also, I know at least one car uses a centrifugal supercharger.
“All the drivers who lost used the same excuses.” Which other’s would you suggest?
“It encourages illegal activity and is a hazard to people in the area in all ways. And frankly, the people in this show should be fined/arrested.” It’s a TV show, racing on roads shut down by the police. If TV show encourage illegal behavior, so do violent movies and video games, and I can think of a lot worse examples that should be shut down before people racing.
You’re right, I think you did lose a few IQ points.

Wasn’t this the show that caused the NHRA to pull race licenses for a few of the “stars”?

You hit the nail on the head, they are encouraging illegal street racing. Playing devils advocate, people can also say that fast and furious, need for speed and the other street racing movies/games also have had an affect on illegal street racing. But I don’t think they are solely responsible for it. There is that saying that the first “street” race was when their were two cars on the road. No matter how much cops come down on street racers their will always be people who need to boast their ego racing between the lights on main street.

Yes it was.

Sure, there will always be high testosterone impromptu street light takeoffs, and they can get dangerous enough. But when it comes to being this organized, no fucking way. Take it to a dragstrip. Don’t have one? If you have this much of a need for speed, sounds like it’s time to find one, or even better start one up!
