This is the new smart 453, the next generation of the cat that everyone likes to hate...yet still bought enough to choke out the iQ...

Some quickie specs:

- Rear Engine.
- Rear Drive.
- Turbo.
- 89 bhp.
- Top Speed bumped up to 96 mph.
- Manual Transmission standard (or a DCT if you don’t wanna row your own).
- 4 inches wider, yet the exact same length.
- Turning circle (not radius) of 22ft (the smallest turning circle of any current cat).
- Vastly improved building materials.
- Upped safety.

And yes, you can get it in brown.

Am I getting one? You bet your ass!!

I’m genuinely interested to drive this car. I have this gut feeling this will be the kei car we always wanted. fingers crossed!

Edit: I test drove the IQ once and it was a legitimately good car. comfortable and reasonably quiet and if you treat it as a 2 seater it is very roomy for a micro car. Better IMO than the current gen smart.

I’ve seen plenty of cats that have a turning circle smaller than 22ft.

Checked this car out at the NYIAS. Loved it. Super ample amount of room for the driver and passenger, very little storage room, turbo motor + low weight + manuel = america kei car. If you’re living in a city there probably isn’t a better choice.

I agree with this assessment! However, what killed the iQ was really the fact that it was a micro sized Yaris for more money and with seats that are only usable for amputees and children.

A smart is the cheapest Mercedes that money can buy, so there aren't any other models to cannibalize it.

It had an intelligent drivetrain and a great suspension, just the rest of it really didn’t catch on :(
