I got a speeding ticket about a month ago, and I have been trying to pay my ticket online or on the phone since I live out of state from where I got it. They say it could take 10 or more days to process the ticket, but its been about 25 days now which seems like an unusually long time to get it into the system. I have attempted to contact the court house both on the phone and through email but every time I call I get a busy signal and my emails never get a response. Is it normal for it to take so long for them to process a ticket?

Here in the UK there’s a 14 day maximum (unless there are reasons for delay like busy postal service) but obviously wont be the same there. I only say this because I thought I got caught speeding and the 14 day period just ran out. Yuss.

I have no idea if there is a time limit in the states, I haven’t been able to find any information on it. I’ve attempted to pay the ticket about 15 times so far.

We get a notification in the post I believe and you get a time limit to pay. It’s all very organised.

I would call a traffic attorney in the area and ask their advice.
I’m no attorney, and it seems like you’re doing the right thing, just make sure you have PROOF that you have been trying to pay it early/on time just in case something goes down. Then you’ll at least be able to prove that you did your best to do the right thing and keep yourself out of trouble.
