In case you have not yet read Mr. George’s article, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Anyway, Mr. George is right. Motorcycle journalism needs to get back on the right track, starting with people like me: someone who has never owned or rode a motorcycle, but wants to get on one. However, there is still one thing holding me back, and that is the attitude some riders bring. That is, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Now, not every motorcyclist is a douche nozzle ready to break off mirrors and beat the shit out of innocent people. It’s just that it seems like this attitude is almost encouraged by some riders for some reason. Here are a couple of videos to make my point.
And...
Yes, drivers will not be the best of people. Yes, you, as a motorcyclist, will get cut off. But, why try to take the law into your own hands? What’s the deal? Forgive and forget, please.
I would not doubt most of the motorcycle isn’t like this, but it’s sad that they do not get the representation like these asshats in the videos do.

Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable on the roads. Just like any group that feels threatened, they tend to lash out and be incredibly defensive.
I dunno, it was never for me. If I’m out riding and some car pulls some stupid shit, I’ll say a lot of mean things about them to myself and then just avoid them. Why confront? You won’t win.

Those are my thoughts exactly. The reason why why I am staying away from motorcycles is that I worry about developing this attitude. I really don’t want to become one of “those people.”

Yeah, if we could NOT post any videos like these, that’s be greeaaaat.

My thoughts on this ongoing process... /prepared to be called an asshole. /angry because reasons. /get off my lawn. (which is to say I agree with you, but it might be worse than you even realize...))

I wouldn’t even really call the riders in those videos asshats. Foul mouthed? Sure but I mean the guy in the first video did have a knife pulled on him and neither rider damaged the inconsiderate drivers property. Frankly I found the videos amusing

The guy in the first video kind of asked for it though.

Good point. Sorry.

Take the stars! All of them! Those comments were gold! XD

No, no, no, not you.. I meant in the future, I meant in Lanesplitter. I don’t like these guys either. Thank you for pointing out the videos we DON’T want to see.

Oh, my bad! I got confused there. I agree. That probably makes these riders more famous.

I’ve been riding since 2009 or so and I don’t consider myself one of those people. A lot of times it just accentuates someone’s natural need to be the center of attention, or the hero of their own narrative.

I am really glad you are not like that. Thank you! I, myself, would probably try the actions from the people in the videos, and therefore, I will stay away from motorcycles. I already battle some anger issues, and I’m slowly getting better; however, a motorcycle won’t help me.

Also, my favorite are the poor riders being harassed by evil automobiles...
until it turns out they were brake-checking, or doing 120 down residential streets past someone’s kid, or any number of asshatish behaviors.
They’re very rarely the innocent injured party they want to portray.

If I stopped and yelled at every driver on the phone, not signaling, tailgating, etc. I’d never ever get anywhere (and would eventually get hurt).

True that!

The guy in the first video was kind of looking for a fight. He managed to get an apology from a random teenage male in traffic (not an easy feat) yet still felt the need to flip shit on him for not checking for filtering motorcycles when opening his door at a red light, which most people don’t.

Don’t filter or don’t open doors? Also, his Integra had auto belts which he was probably adjusting.

Still that teenager then pulled a knife on him

Right. That’s bad. Bad teenager. But why was the biker still hounding him? I ask because that’s the whole point of this thread. The biker had a freakout long before a knife was involved.
