Turns out it was not rodent damage, but rather the compressor itself is leaking. Seems odd on a car with 13k miles that doesn’t see a whole lot of heavy A/C use.

Thanks. I’ve been thinking of getting a tattoo of it.

When A/C is used infrequently, or any component using them, seals tend to dry up on the shaft. The damage occurs as soon as the shaft make a movement after long period of inactivity, stripping the fine layer of the seal. Therefore, it is a good idea to turn on you A/C at least on every month or two, even in the winter, quite obviously.

It’s used daily, just not very intensively.

Then it reached not yours but it’s life time and is just worn out... ;- )

I’m just saying; a little over a year (MY14) and 13k miles does not seem like the average lifetime of an A/C compressor

Did not realize, it was that new! In that case, something with that seal is not quite right...
