The body of five-time Formula 1 World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio will be exhumed next month, following the orders of a judge in Argentina for a paternity test.
Fangio, who won the F1 world title in 1951 and then every year from 1954-57 despite a near-fatal crash at Monza in ‘52, is the subject of a lawsuit opened by a man who claims to be his son.
His body will be exhumed on August 7 to analyze his DNA.
The news comes just days before the 20th anniversary of Fangio’s death, which happened on July 17 1995 when he was aged 84.
His body will be removed from the local cemetery of Balcarce, the town where Fangio was born, and will be taken to the nearby city of Mar del Plata, in Buenos Aires so DNA samples can be taken.
The reason is the lawsuit started in 2013 by Oscar Cesar Espinoza, who claims to be Fangio’s descendant.
Fangio never married or had recognized children in his lifetime, although he had a long relationship with a woman, Andrea Berruet, Espinoza’s mother.

Why would they exhume him? A DNA sample would be more than enough...

I guess they have to compare the DNA? I don’t think he has any family to compare to.

Well, they would be comparing it to the person in question...

i suppose they could use a drill and then a long syringe, but they’d probably need ultrasound or some other scanning technology to make sure they were in the right spot. it would be like a bone marrow donation/transplant from the next room.
probably more cost effective to just remove the body and perform the sampling in a laboratory.

I guess they can’t find any DNA of Juan’s, nothing biological of any use. They need a confirmed sample to compare to, they would have to have Juan’s or a confirmed relative to compare, which he apparently has none, you can’t just see his DNA and know its related.

Can we just not?

What does this Espinoza fellow expect to gain from this?

Well at the very least confirmation of who his father is, his mother was with Fangio and maybe he has no idea. Can’t hurt to be Fangio’s kid!

If that is all he wants, I can’t blame him for that. If he wants €£$, then F**k him.

Could be for control of the estate. With n osuccessor, the estate could fall into the hands of businessmen or other people who wouldn’t honor fangio’s wishes.

Well its kind of late for that I think, I’m sure he had some idea of his father because his mother was with Juan for years aparently. At this point I think his estate has been settled, I mean he died in 1995, the most you could go for was a confirmed connection. Maybe he didn’t know until recently? I’m not sure what sparked this in 2015.
