It was an exhaust rattle. Sounded almost like rod knock.
I didn’t want to weld the heat shield so I paid someone to fix it for me. $250 repair + $125 tow + $3000 car brings the running total to $3375 for a one owner 110k mile 2009 legacy limited. I still need to do spark plugs and an oil change, but everything runs great!

Yep, and a built saabaru in the garage haha. Possibly flip it or I might keep it but I doubt it. The hard decision is blower on the m3, or big turbo/ built motor on the sti.

The STI would be a beast with a built motor, and the AWD would be able to (mostly) put the power down. The M3 with a blower.. That would be tons of fun but the power won't be as easy to use.

I think I’d be able to put it down on the m3. My 295’s stick pretty good and the m3 has traction control, but the sti would be making between 500-600 awhp at <3100 lbs. Either way, I don’t think I could go wrong with either choice, and I kind of want a car that's actively trying to kill me.

I got to drive a VF supercharged M3 that was slightly stripped and on street rubber. The blower had lots of supporting mods and the almost bald squared 295’s struggled to put power down (traction off of course) and man was it crazy fun.. You could take it so close to the limit and it was very controllable. But the moment you went over the line it would become a handful. So much fun! On the other hand.. I got to ride in my friends 450whp STI while he ripped us around some local back roads.. The grip was INSANE. I've never been more scared as a passenger lol.
