If you’ve been following me over the past few months you’ll recall !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! back on May 20th only to have it spend !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The ASS is a function that automatically turns the engine off when the car comes to a stop. The idea is to conserve fuel. The engine automatically restarts at the appropriate time to take off. Not exactly seamless, but it works (on my loaner car).
None of us could believe that such a simple feature would take so long to be resolved by a BMW dealer, but it has. And as of now I’m happy to announce that BMW tells me it’s been fixed. Granted I haven’t driven my car yet so I can’t confirm with my own eyes but I’m going to take their word for it and reveal the culprit. It may surprise you. Link below.

It is most unfortunate that you’ve busted your ASS for this long.

So ~50 days of ownership ~50 days in the shop?
also, what a pain that this didn’t pop up in their CPO inspection.

I feel your pain, ground problems can be a bitch. My fiancee’s ‘04 Beetle developed a misfire. My first instinct was to put on new plugs, plug wires, and an ignition coil pack, but that didn’t help. No worries though because it was due for all that anyway. Weeks later I finally traced the problem to a poor ground connection for the ECU.

A friend recently bought a CPO 2011 328i, and I wonder what they bothered to inspect. Not the body - lots of dents and scratches. Not the climate control - defrost and a few other functions didn’t work. There were several other faults that I can’t recall at the moment (and that took a few weeks to get right), but it just seemed like an average used car, not something that deserved the CPO tag. Lots of marketing, but very little substance to this program it seems.

It doesn’t usually take that long

Mine has worked ONCE since I bought the car a year ago. I always turn the feature on hoping it will work again, but it never does. I haven’t pursued it really since it could put excessive wear on the starter. I assume the battery is probably below the proper voltage, even though I could drive on the freeway for an hour, and it still never turns off the car once I exit and hit a series of lights

Nice wheels.
I came here just to comment that.
