I wonder if lane-splitter has talked about this? I -kind of- agree due to how the sensors fail to pick up on the presence of our 2-wheeled friends.

I assumed that was universal...It was legal everywhere I’ve ridden. Doesn’t help much when you’re trying to turn left from a side road onto a major street though...I used to have to hop off and go hit the cross walk button every time I tried to leave my neighborhood.

If I was riding, I’d probably still stop and wait. But it’s a good option, in Virginia I’m not too sure about motorcycles, but mopeds can safely cross red lights.

Oh that had to suck.
I’d love to have a bike but the people around here are way to damn crazy around motorcycles, maybe one day I’ll man up and get one haha.

Interesting. Not sure about the 120 seconds or 2 full cycles wait. 1 full cycle, or hell even after coming to a full stop. If the intersection is wide open and nobody else is going to help you trip the sensors then why not?
The point could even be made that a lone motorcycle sitting at an I intersection waiting is in greater danger to getting hit by a distracted driver approaching the intersection and not seeing said waiting motorcycle.

Indiana has always had this law. Most riders don’t know about it, to be honest.

I don’t need no stinkin’ law. I do it anyway. Got pulled over once for it and told the cop I had been there for over 3 minutes. No ticket.

Same law (two min or two cycles) here in VA, they passed it a few years ago.
There are a few lights that never change for me, and it’s a godsend.

That’s scary and a bad idea. A better alternative would be to just time the lights. No sensors needed, just a clock and a switch.
What if a bike gets hit in the intersection, whose fault is it? The car had a green and the motorcycle had the red light.

That’s odd. The sensors here in Oregon pick up my bicycle wheels.

Not to be a terrible human being, but if a motorcycle was crossing an intersection at a red light and a car comes from nowhere (but in the direction where it’s a greeen light) and smears the motorcyclist, who is at fault.

It’s possible you have the law over there where you didn’t get the ticket.

Possible. I think it was in Michigan. Long time ago. Does not make sense to pull some one over if there is a law that says it’s OK.

Motorcycle. It’s the rider’s responsibility to make sure there is no approaching traffic.

It’s not about waiting. You could wait until the sun went out at some lights and they’d never change. You either have to hope a car comes up close enough behind you to trigger it, or just go when there’s no cars coming.

If you pull off from a 2-way stop sign and get creamed by cross traffic, that’s your fault. Same thing applies here; you’re only allowed to proceed from a red if it’s clear.

It’s Oregon; I’m sure somewhere in Portland there’s a Church to the Almighty Spoke where bicycle worshipers come to offer up sacrifices of pant legs and leg hair.
