This summer, I needed a job. I’m in high school, so I’m not really qualified for anything other than the typical minimum-wage job, and I like driving, so the only logical choice for me was to deliver pizzas for my local pizza place. As I have been driving around my town and the surrounding areas these past few weeks, I have noticed many things I would not normally notice. Car things. So far, only two have really caught my eye, so much so that I had to stop and snap a quick picture, but I will file these to “discoveries of a delivery guy” and hopefully, if I make any money doing this (they don’t pay for my gas) I can pray that none of them have serious frame rust and buy them. All of them.

This old MR2 (not sure if it’s a turbo) was sitting very abandoned looking in a driveway, just off of a road that I very frequently travel.

This early nineties Mitsubishi Eclipse has certainly seen better days, but assuming it needs nothing more than new fluids, tires, brakes, and possibly a turbo rebuild, this could be one seriously cool project, especially since it is a GSX. Not sure if the early models were turbos though, I’ll have to look it up. Still cool.

I loved delivering pizza. I made decent money doing to. I’d say 10-12 bucks an hour average even after paying for gas. I had my 91 Civic hatch which made the job a blast, and used very little gas. only “downside” was I ALWAYS had 50-200 bucks in my wallet(we took our tips, and mileage comp how at the end of the night), which made saving money nearly impossible.

I totally get the wallet thing, mine won’t even close right now because of all the damn singles. My job will be a looooot more fun, but a lot less lucrative after I get back from vacation, because my old vehicle (‘03 Explorer) got 12 mpg on a good day, and has just had literally every single thing that ends with “pump” fail. Good thing is, my new vehicle gets about 8! I’ll have an update on that soon, though. And while they don’t pay me for my gas, I get $9/hr cash (shhh) plus tips, and one of the towns I deliver too is quite affluent, so it’s worth the distance

(/hr is great. I was getting 5.50/hr+tips and .27/mile so if I drove 100 miles I only got 2.70 back. So it paid for like 30-40% of my gas.

None of these were turbo. If it’s Supercharged it’ll have body-colored mirrors, T-tops AND raised engine vents.

So this would be a base model then, as I see none of that

Stock Eclipse, don’t see that often at all. Especially of that generation.

Now, does your car smell like pizza?

No, it smells of oil, because I have to keep the exxon valdiz in my trunk so it doesn’t run out. Rear main seal is leaking profusely, and basically every part on the car that ends with the suffix -pump, is shot to hell. Thankfully it only has to last two more nights before I go on vacation and can spend all my time searching for something new, on essentially a budget of a mason jar full of pennies, and pay from the past few weeks

Delivering pizza / food in general is great. But expect problems to start developing in your car. Back roads and “city” driving several hundred miles a week on crappy roads absolutely ruins suspensions. ALWAYS GIVE THEM AS MANY ONES AS YOU CAN! Organize your cash, and hand in as many small bills as you can so you have big bills for yourself. And if possible, find somewhere that has a company car that you drive instead. No wear and tear on your car! I love delivering, find cool cars and meet dogs.

I’ve found quite a few cool rides

There is a reason DSM’s are abandonded like this. Usually they are horrible

Still not bad, as they all had the famous 4A-GE.
