I have mixed feeling about this. A bit less driver engagement but you’re increasing performance. Just like what Porsche has done with the 911’s. If I bought a GT3 it’s becuase I’d be going to the track. Time matters. I’d want the PDK.
I would like to see the ratio of people who track their M versus those who don’t. Or those who really want a manual. I’d imagine it’s 90:1. I’m sure this is a reaction to market results.

It has just been talked about.
Oh and BTW, my little spy at BMW R/D told me ages ago that all M cars will be 4WD soon, too.

Obviously, BMW is giving us the middle finger.

Ah ha!
I’m not surprised by the AWD thing. 600hp is useless unless you have drag slicks that are 14” wide.
Don’t we all want to be grounded to the ground?

LOVE Awd.

no. some of us prefer a more pure tossable feeling to a computer controlled effortless lap time

Numbers are what sells cars to people who couldn’t care less about how it feels.

As sad as it is, it makes sense. If BMW is going to build a no-compromise car, why offer it with an inferior (as far as shift times) transmission. And not everything about the new BMW is bad; at least they offer an LSD on non-M models now.
The only BMW I see in my future is a 228i, so I’m still safe (for now).

The M models don’t appeal to me anyway, I’d sooner take a high spec 2 series. The M5 for example is a complete tank.

Apparently it’s going to be heavily rear-biased. The front will only kick in when needed. So it’s no contender to the “dead horse nailed to the radiator grille” (Clarkson) that Audi offers. ;)

He didn’t say manuals are going to be completely dropped yet. He just said that it doesn’t look good so as long as customers want a manual, BMW will make them.
Unfortunately, BMW drivers are too important to shift their own gears so they probably won’t last.

Pathetic.

I would love a manual M235xi. FBO they’re good for about 400 to the wheels, which would be much more usable with AWD.

I always thought that they’d take the M cars in a more 911 GT3 direction than say a Turbo S. They’ll probably come out with a line to keep them in the horsepower wars that will inevitably continue. V8 450is anyone?
