The TLX, I think, is one of coolest looking sedans on the road. Its sporty without being overtly so, and stylish without being overwrought. Yet people still give it guff. And I’m not sure why. Whenever a site or magazine reviews it, people complain about the no nonsense equipment levels of the 2.4, or complain about the pricing of the V6 SHAWD. Both options offer more value than any of their other luxury competitors though. The top complaint seems to be the quality of materials, I’m sorry but have you say in a BMW with the leatherette? Its disgusting. VW VTex is nicer than that shit. Can anyone explain it?

I think there is your problem.

I think the TLX is dope. Acura/Honda is just a very easy target.

Have you tried sitting in both a base spec 3 series with leatherette and a fairly well loaded TSX? Once you do, you’ll understand.

Have they updated the shifting patterns for the transmission yet? The V6 SHAWD is a lot slower than it should be, given its weight/power ratio, and the shifting of the transmission is to blame.
That’s the biggest complaint I’ve heard about it from a driving perspective. It goes about as quick as a GTI despite having more power.

Its the stigma of the beak grille and honda’s general “bleh” ness causing brand blindness. Acura has been doing very well for itself and tried a lot of cool, fun ideas. The old TSX was a hoot of a small entry level luxury vehicle which always beat up on buick daily. And the old TL had a 6-speed manual, 300hp, AWD, and was still a mid sized luxury vehicle. I think people might be viewing the TLX as a bit of a step back? Perhaps the ILX being a bit botched at launch is still in their mind?
It isn’t perfect, but I can see your point about it not being bad either.

Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the ZDX remains the best one of those “coupe” crossover SUVs

Because for $33k Honda I’m getting a fully loaded Accord.
and for a $44k car I’m literally going anywhere else.

An Accord crosstour with a different grille, both are fugly

Let’s be honest here, none of Honda’s “performance” lineup is true awd. It’s fwd that can send some power to the rear wheels when needed for traction.
And that beak is awful...yet Honda won’t abandon it. There’s a reason I see 1 beaked Acura for every 20 of every other luxury car.

They're probably trying to keep the trains from exploding. Honda has a history of bad V6 transmissions I hear.

Still more interesting than an X6. Rarer too.

Agreed. Even sitting in it you notice the difference in quality, driving it ... it’s sad how much better the 3 series is.

To be fair most FWD based AWD systems work that way these days.

I agree that BMW leatherette isn’t very comfortable. My biggest issue with Acura is how underwhelming their cars are as a product. For me, $35k+ is quite a bit of money and at this price and model range I expect the interior to look and feel a certain way. Acura products feel like Civics and Accords, but for much more money. When I sit inside a new IS 350, it doesn’t feel like a Corolla or Camry. On the outside, I don’t have many complaints, I’m not a huge fan of the headlights though, all the LEDS make it look like a squinty bug.

Is it actually rare or do they just not sell thus making it “rare”? X6 sucks too fwiw

Oh definitely a case of no one buying it. But it had the SH-AWD system, a VTEC turbo 4 and Acura actually had demonstrations where you could flog them on dirt, gravel, and snow and be just fine and dandy. Not a full 4x4 by any stretch of the imagination, but I would bet money they could do well in the SCCA rallycross competitions.

It’s more of a CLA/A3 competitor though.

The TLX is not in any way, shape or form “one of the coolest looking sedans on the road”. It looks like ass.
Cool looking sedans? C class. ATS. 3 series. Fusion and Mazda6 if you want “looks better than it costs.”
The TLX is in the basement of car looks. Slightly above the 200 and below the predator grill ES. At least toyota’s spindle grill makes the their cars look agressive and appeals to a certain clientele. The TLX is just ugly.

They are able to trick a good amount of people with the interior though with their fake aluminum trim bits, and colorful clusters. I’ve heard countless people remark how boring and simple the understated BMW interior is compared to Japanese luxury cars. Honestly if you just drive to work, and you follow the suggested speed limit for every curve you encounter the TLX is a fine car. Even if you drive a little spiritedly it’s an okay car. It’s not until you REALLY drive it that you discover it’s flaws.

It actually isn’t. The ACT was a jacked up Accord platform. The ZDX is on the MDX platform which is different and much more truck like.

I have. I am unbelievably unimpressed with BMW interiors. The gear shifter feels like it will snap off in my hand and the knobs feel like they’re more jammed in then quality tight.

Actually, the Acura SHAWD system is tuned for split power and torque vectoring. Much more advanced than the others.

I mean, that’s just horse shit. Acura has one of the most advanced AWD drivetrains among luxury car manufacturers.

Same price actually. Don’t let the reviews fool you, the TLX is about 44k when decently equipped, same as the Exec you posted. The only thing the Acura doesn’t have in that trim is the cooked front seats and the massaging drivers seat. But it has more in other areas.

The Fusion is hideous, and the 3 series looks like one big tumor.

They are Japanese Buicks. That’s as much praise I can give.

I, and most buyers, would rather have rwd than mostly fwd with the most advanced shifting some power to the rear wheels awd.

Man, I love the looks of these! And I’m not afraid to proclaim it!

Looks-wise, I feel like it’s a big step in the right direction for Acura, although I do wish they’d give up the beak and figure out a new corporate grill that’s not so off-putting. Otherwise it’s pretty nice looking car.

shifting some power to the rear wheels awd.
Yes, continue to prove you don’t know just how capable SHAWD is.
