If only...

My father has, on numerous occasions, offered to pay me to build him a computer running Windows 95. He’s not much of a computer guy but says it’s the last operating system he “understood”. He doesn’t buy my “excuses” that it would be more expensive and less functional than just buying a new computer.

Oh, the memories.

That said, can I upgrade to XP with Service pack 942? I want my damned Start button back.

Don’t forget about the 4x CD-ROM

I think my parents thought PC ownership was fad that would blow over, like Beta, or Laserdisc, so we didn’t get our first computer until about the same time they got rid of their rotary phones which was circa 1995 (this is not a lie). It was a Packard Bell with a Pentium 133MHz, 16MB RAM, 2.1GB, 4x CD-ROM, and a 28.8K modem. It was top of the line and cost like $3,000.

I still remember me and all my friends being blown away at how big a 2.1gb hard drive was and how there was no way I’d ever fill it up.

After we moved on to other computers my dad used it as his work computer...

Until it died in 2009.

AMD K6/2 would be PERFECT for Windows 95. Toss in a Soundblaster 16 and a full-height stepper motor hard drive because dat noise. Don’t forget to also have a 1600x1200 CRT monitor because DAT REFRESH RATE.

I’m basically describing my computer circa 2008 or so.

Nice! I had a Pentium III 1GHz with 768mb RAM and Windows 98SE/XP dual boot with an AWE64 card around that time too. Also had a 21” 1600x1200 CRT monitor...
