Time to enjoy the holiday, top down in my rental with my lovely girlfriend!
Beach day with all the fancy people. Definitely gotta hit up Ortega highway while I’m out here as well.
This automatic hard top thing is so strange to me. Takes like 30 whole seconds to lower and raise the top. I’m used to my miata which is just unlatch and drop, so simple. At least it’s got paddle shifters and POWAH so it should be fun. Definitely the most expensive car I’ve been in for more than a couple minutes. Other thing I noticed is how bright it is inside the car at night. Like the gauges and radio and interior background lighting is pretty obnoxious while driving along. Its not bothersome but it’s just different.

Haha I imagine my girlfriend would find this comment rather creepy coming from random internet stranger. Thank you for the kind words, I surely admire her.

Future note in MBs the knob under the gauge cluster controls the lighting for the gauge cluster, interior ambient lighting and the AC controls/dials all at once. The menu on the audio system (Comand) let’s you lower the display brightness.

Yeah, I found that knob the last day I had the car. Was trying to figure out how to connect Bluetooth and tried every button I could find. Ended up that Bluetooth just didn’t work with my phone but I did find the brightness knob and the Sport/Economy/Manual button on the shifter.

Bluetooth setup on MBs can be finicky but once set up works pretty flawlessly in my experience. The setup takes more than a few tries to get it to pair I’ve seen with different phones. My iPhone 5s and 6 paired quickly, my girl’s 5S involves her turning BT off and on like twice before I can get to the set up screen on my Benz.

Yeah my cheapo Samsung Galaxy Victory had no chance of working haha. Worked for BT audio in the Ford rentals I have had in the past though. I had AUX cable (which I prefer) so it was more a curiosity thing. The transmission button though was something I wish I found way sooner. That gearbox in "E" mode was a blithering idiot!

Where is it on the SLK? On my C it’s here (C -> S button under D):
To shift to manual you just pull it to the left (the - on D)

Yup its in that same spot. The car had paddle shifters though and let you manually shift regardless of the mode. The car just had a different level of intervention depending on which mode basically. E=complete idiot, S=only somewhat dumb but at least quick, M=do what you want but will still shift when you decide to forget downshifting at a traffic light or redline the hell out of it.
