I took a wire wheel to it to remove the rust and then hit it with a can of spray paint. Figured it’s the spare that no one will ever see (hopefully), so I might as well have some fun with it and paint it bright blue.

I was also using the spare to test my painting skills out to see if I would be able to live with the results for my other four wheels. I’m not sure if I am satisfied enough to do the other four myself or not. They will not be bright blue though, they will be a light gray like they are currently. Also, I did not paint the valve stem, just had not removed the tap from it yet when I took the pic.

Now with pink paint write on the rim “Man Love Rules, Okay?”

You had me wondering about the color. I think that’s Smurf Blue.

That could look good depending on the ride.

Tell them it came off of Richard Petty’s NASCAR Superbird.

Looks good. I think the most ingenious idea for taping up the wheels was but using playing cards.

Coincidentally, the truck the spare belongs to is a Dodge Ram of that era. Sounds like I may have a new project

The truck is two tone blue, it wont look great on it, but not too bad either.

I tried that method, but could not get the cards to stick in between the wheel and tire. I don’t know if I was doing it wrong or if was the cheap old cards I was using. It would have been much easier had it of worked.

Smurf Blue and Petty Blue are so close. You have an old school Dodge?

Yeah, that’s Petty Blue!

Great idea! I hadn’t even realized it was pretty close to Petty blue.

I think the trick is to lower the tyre pressure a little. I want to repair mine as they are scuffed to buggery from high kerbs.

Yep, ‘86 Ram. I am going to call it that from now on, makes it sound like I planned it and didn’t just pick up the first blue I saw.

Ahhh, makes sense. The tire was flat, but I think I filled it up before I painted it. I’ll try that next time. Thanks for the tip!
