I actually know the owner, but it was still pretty random to see him while I was driving the Elise.

How is your Elise to live with? Is it feasible to use as a DD in the warmer months?
I’m looking at the BRZ right now, but the Elise makes me warm in special places. I’ve never driven one so I would have to do that before I made any decision. It might be too hard-core for my liking.

To hell with ride quality and my back, I would DD an Elise all day any day. As long as I don’t have to sit for more than an hour at a time in the car haha

My commute is 4 miles, or about 6 minutes when I can get around traffic. I rarely have to sit for long enough to be uncomfortable.
That said, a BRZ can fit 4 wheels in it for Auto-X.

Just don't get stuck in traffic.

Did you race him?

I despise autocrossing. I’d rather spend the money on a track day where there are fewer people (although everybody is out on the course at the same time unlike an autox) and more time to spend driving the car.

That’s why my max is an hour! If I get stuck in traffic that is the most I can handle. Otherwise, clear open roads I can go for maybe 2-3 hours non-stop.

I totally agree. AutoX is such a tease, although much more affordable for some folks (as it was for myself before I could spend more money on fun).

There are a few things that would make it not ideal to DD. It takes quite a bit of effort to climb in and out of compared to a “normal car”. There’s lots of wind and road noise. There’s a massive blind spot because of the shape of the rear bodywork. I’m pretty paranoid about where I park it too. Since a small *bump* can become a significant repair because of the front and rear clamshells. For a short trip the uncomfortableness isn’t really a big deal though. I got sore when I was driving it home after buying it ,but that was after driving for hours at a time.
I don’t daily drive mine because my commute is only one mile, so I feel like it’s not worth it. Also I’m a pussy and I like being in a comfy car lol. So I just use it as a “fun” car. But I know there are people on the Lotus forum that do DD them. Basically it’s just how much do you want to put up with. It’s a amazing car to drive, but definitely not super practical.

I did not. :(

I’m 6 foot and about 210, I’m trying to get below 200 but haven’t gotten there yet. You make a great point about entry and exit. I do not think I could manage that with my garage as it is currently. I need a shed before I could get into and out of an Elise easily.
Damn, I was kind of hoping it could be an everyday car, but it really sounds like it only works as a second or third vehicle.
I’m not sure I want to keep my SVT Focus just so I can have an Elise. My Focus is enough of a prima dona car with rare and expensive parts as it is. Adding a Lotus to that might make my wallet cry.
I should still probably drive one just to be sure.

I’d love to have a four mile commute. I would ride my bike to work. (Hell I live 18 miles away and have considered it. Stupid San Diego hills!)

I would like to be able to ride my bike as well, sadly my commute is not over city streets. Those roads have 35-45mph speed limits and zero room to the side for bikes. I’d rather not die.
