Scary stuff! Glad the safety equipment did its job though, that could have been way worse.

Also, I hope both drivers were penalized for being that close during qualifying. There’s no need for that.

Those cars have full cages. Imagine if that happened without a cage in the car.

Wow. That’ll buff right out, though. Seriously, that was amazing, and it’s hard to believe that the catch fence worked so well. Amazing.

Glad the fence and onboard equipment saved him from serious, serious injury. I’m not trying to be callous when I say this, the tire bouncing down the track gets me every time.

Considering how the catch fence was obliterated doing its job, I’m glad it was a race prepped 458 versus a Cup car

This was during a race. That being said, this series still has a no contact rule.

I was there at the track but didn’t see this. It took an hour to get everything fixed and took over 300 feet of fencing to temporally fix the catch fence. It moved 17 of the concrete barriers.

This was actually on lap 4 or 5 of round 4 of their season on Sunday morning, not a qualifying session. My dad and I were standing right there when it hit the fence and I can’t find the words to describe what it was like. If the high strength cables that run the length of the fence were compromised in any way, people would have died on the walking trail back there. Easily the scariest moment of my life, I was shaking for a good 30 minutes afterward. It was really hard to even enjoy any of the PWC racing.
