I can’t for the life of me think of the name for the hump behind the driver’s seat on this XK-D (or similar vintage racing roadsters). Been trying to look up what certain other cars look like with them, but no terms I’ve come up with to describe it have produced results. Anyone?

In other news, enough front page for this month...

I don’t know any good terms for that, so I’d probably just say streamlining bulge or canopy taper or something like that.

It is an aerodynamic fairing, as a technical term.

There have been Corvettes, Ferrari 250 TestaRossas, Alfa Romeo racers, and many old grand prix open-cockpit race cars with that feature.

Fairing, as BoxerFanatic says. Couldn’t think of it.

Technically speaking it’s the Go Faster Bulge.

Thanks! That’s why I was so confused that I couldn’t come up with the name for it, since it so obviously features prominently throughout automotive racing history. I was trying to see whether anyone had tried to apply the idea to a street-going MGB, or even Miata (which they definitely have, since I’ve seen those, but couldn’t Google to find out).
