It’s getting stupid at this point.... I mean isn’t the witch hunt for that flag about 150 years too late?

While I certainly agree with the decision to remove the Stars and Bars from state buildings, people are certainly taking it to ridiculous levels.

Better late than never?

Ya it needs to end. Also the flag is just a dead symbol, nothing more.

Up next for removal:
Tom Sawyer, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Roots, and Django Unchained.
Thanks 2015 American Society! You’ve accomplished absolutely nothing in doing this. I hate this country and world a little more day after day. -_-
Edit: FFS, removing the flag from a govt. building wasn’t enough?? The only people digging up this grave are those butthurt about this. This shit is HISTORY, move the fuck on!! Giving me more reasons to find a diecast General Lee and have it with me at all times.

Business. The cost in potential bad PR and syndication fees is greater than the meager ad revenue.
It’s not like you were watching it.

I’ll just leave this here

History? Last I checked I see plenty of neo-nazis/white supremacists/fucking rednecks still rocking the confederate flag as a symbol..... Unfortunatly, that stupid flag is far from history.
And in this instance, please note, it wasn’t public pressure or gov’t mandate pressuring TV Land to drop the Dukes of Hazzard, they decided on their own it wasn’t what they wanted to portray on their channel. Their choice.

No, at this point it has gained a meaning for certain people. Granted, some of those people are racist inbred fucktards, but the majority of people that have an association with it are not... And now they are being told it is the worst thing possible....there needs to be a middle ground.

I would say the obvious difference is the nazis were still represented as bad guys, albeit bumbling, inept, bad guys - whereas the Dukes of Hazard used the confederate flag in a “cool” way.
But either way - fictional stories, not real life.

I don’t mean “history” in the sense that it’s over and done for. I meant that it’s a part of history. At this point, I don’t really care what flag people fly or what they believe in; they can do whatever the hell they want, so long as it doesn’t affect my daily life. Everything’s going to hell anyway, what’s a little more lighter fluid on the burner.
Sure, they did it on their own accord, but one simply cannot say they would have removed it regardless of how much press and media attention the flag is receiving. If this wasn’t the “big deal” it is now, you can bet those reruns would still be airing. Damn politically correcting society.

Our friend Zach Bowman encapsulated my thoughts on the matter perfectly. From now on, whenever I see consternation about the flag, I’m just going to use his words:
On being Southern.
We’re a proud bunch, us Southerners. And it’s funny because we know what it means to lose. To be beaten. To be fallible. To be wrong. You get born down here in the dirt and you’re given that. The dark, tender knowledge that there’s shame in your blood.
Not all Americans have that. Maybe more should.
So there’s that damn flag. And I could tell you what it means to me as a Southerner, what I was taught to believe it means by a long line of proud history teachers and professors, but it doesn’t matter. Not really. You’ll never see me fly that thing. Never see it in my house. Not because I want to accept its complete assimilation by the ignorant and the hateful, but because of what it means to the millions of lives corrupted, disfigured, mangled, and terminated by the slave trade in the thin and pathetic name of commerce.
It’s not about free speech or expression or honor. It’s about acknowledging our role in one of the greatest atrocities ever perpetrated by one group of humans against another. It’s about bowing your head, not raising your fist.
To quote the sage, “Such is the duality of the Southern Thing.” Pride and shame, all balled up in one piece of cloth.

Censorship and revisionism are only okay if it supports MY beliefs, right?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 18:16 |

It’s very much alive for some. Which is why censoring it is just another way to sweep problems under the rug.

Thank you. This is so true. I'm a proud Southerner, but I've never owned a battle flag or flown one because I don't want to be thrown in with the redneck/racist crowd.

As someone who grew up in the south, I’m not familiar with the people you claim have an association with the flag, but that aren’t inbred fucktards.... You either don’t rock that flag, or you’re a dipship redneck who does....

I wasn’t, but my dad was. He will be disappointed.

I grew up in Alabama. The freakin heart of Dixie, I know what I’m talking about. There are plenty of people that have associations with the stars and bars because of distant relatives having been in the civil war, and because it is just such a huge part of the culture.... There are also plenty of racist fucktards that sport the thing too. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. The people that value it because of history, i don’t have such a problem with, the ones running around in their fucking bedsheets burning churches and intimidating the public at large, I have a HUGE fucking problem with.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 18:50 |

The other thing we’ve all forgotten is there was more at stake during the civil war. It wasn’t just about slaves, It was about States Right, Foreign interests in our country, and political power.

Ridiculous. People are using the Charleston massacre to push an agenda of banning the Confederate flag. While it might have been wrong of South Carolina to keep the flag flying in the days afterward, one racially motivated shooting doesn’t mean that the whole flag should go away completely. It was an important part of American history. If this mentality was applied to other events, we’d have no violent video games and no guns. The latter would be a violation of the constitution.
Maybe I’m biased because I live where the CSA used to be and I’m pretty conservative, but these are some things for people to consider.

I mean, the car is called “The General Lee.” What are they going to change it to the ‘General Grant?’

Why don’t we just laugh at them and Ignore it like we did with the Neo-Nazis?

That’s what I thought the plan was
