Yes I know W10 is only free for the first year, but remember that Microsoft has aimed for it to be the last version of Windows. When anything is “free” you will be paying for it in some way or another.

But if I am the product does that mean I’m free?

With Win10 you get what you pay for. In this case, you’re paying nothing for the most stable, intuitive version yet. Not to mention it’s easy on resources and will give very little fuss over any peripheral you plug in. It installed my 10 year old Wacom without a hiccup, where I had to jump through hoops to get it to recognize on 7, 8 and 8.1

I got no problem with that. I’d rather use something for a year and “help” develop it by becoming the product, and having to pay for it a year later knowing what it’s like instead of blindly doing it.

You have to realize how infinitesimally small the number of people who actually purchase their own Windows licenses and perform upgrades on their own machines are. Microsoft still charges OEMs and enterprise for bulk licenses which has always been the primary source of income for Windows division. That doesn’t change.

Besides, when they launched Windows 8 you could go out and buy a full fledged upgrade license for like 20 bucks. This is just reducing that cost. It remains to be seen whether this aphorism is true or not for Windows, but right now, all signs point to No.

Lol, and you obviously have the freedom to sell your system for W10

The 9x builds were unstable and not really usable apart from development and bugsearches. These latest builds - especially the first one with Edge - are like goddamn

W8 went for that little because of the large scale backlash against it. I’m testing W10 out for an enterprise environment that does business in federal construction and engineering.

Let me know how that goes! I’m interested to see how 10 works in an enterprise environment.

The free part is that you’re eating dog food. After that they’ll release to home users, then finally enterprise users. Seems like a pretty damn good system. Someone was thinking.
