Suede >>>>> alcantara

I’d take REAL carbon-fibre, piano black wood, or brushed aluminium over wood.
Call me insane and full of splinters, but I never liked how “shiny” wood looks in cars because of the lacquer they use. If there were such a thing as the wood just being sanded and then placed into the car, no treatment at all, I’d love that. But AFAIK it hasn’t been that way since the 60s.
Overall it’s a good list though. (I think Alcantara should be higher though. It means serious sportiness is at hand!)
![]() 07/01/2015 at 02:51 |

I think I have seen some “natural” wood trims, but they were probably fake wood or veneer.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 02:52 |

The correct answer is metal with real chrome

all I’m gonna say is this.
Nothing tops the cloth seats in the GTI. they are simply the best seat ever made. Even better than Volvo's seats, which are a close second
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:00 |
|
I pretty much agree with this list.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:00 |

I hate having to choose between the awesome plaid cloth seats and a backup camera in the GTI.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:01 |

Kevlar. I want kevlar!
Alcantara.
Cloth.
I’ll happily go without leather and/or wood if it doesn’t suit the car. I’d love to see more metal interior bits ... but that won’t happen for several reasons, I guess.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:03 |

my stepdad’s got both in his GTI actually!
He's got the Clark plaid, and a pair of eyes. Works really good from what I can tell ;)
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:12 |
|
I’m mostly on-board, but I’d take good cloth over fake leather any day.
(Well, honestly, I actually tend to prefer cloth - particularly when it comes with patterns/plaid/random leaf shapes - over leather and alcantara in general, but I'm well aware I'm in the minority there.)
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:13 |
|
Why is the backup camera even in the running?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:14 |
|
I am not a fan of wood in my cars unless that car was made before 1950, preferably before 1940.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:16 |
|
...Kevlar? I’ve got a motorcycle jacket made of the stuff and it will literally take skin off if you brush up against it too fast.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:23 |
|
... yeah. I didn’t mean to see it included as “touch surface” material but as a base material for seats etc, things that need to survive for a while. I’ll happily take kevlar floormats at any rate.

The new XC90 Inscription trim has real untreated Birch inlays.
It’s freaking gorgeous.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 03:38 |
|
I feel the same way about shiny wood. Mercedes has been doing a lot of open-pore, rough or smooth depending on type of wood, stained-for-color-only wood trim packages that are absolutely beautiful.

I’d take cloth over real leather today. The weather means that leather would probably melt my skin off. I wish I’d paid the extra for air con...

I hadn’t even noticed until I realised I was slightly stuck to my computer chair. I feel like I should head down to the beach and catch up on some reading, or something.

I’m going over to my friends to work on his clapped out Micra then heading to London, where it’s even warmer...
![]() 07/01/2015 at 04:14 |

I hope you won’t have to travel by Tube—London in general feels like a sweatbox whenever it’s warm, but those tunnels must be utter torture right about now.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 04:15 |
|
We do have to ride the tube... The train takes us to Kings Cross then tube to Wimbledon.

Up here we’ve got some heavy weather incoming, apparently.
This is about to turn into a ‘work on the Land Rover’ day.

Only number 9 and 12 are truly relevant.

My weather app had been reporting thunderstorms over the next couple days, but it’s back to just plain sunny now.

Precisely, I’m a smart man...
![]() 07/01/2015 at 06:33 |

A nice plaid interior is better than Alcantara. Otherwise, this list is perfect.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 06:34 |
|
I’d definitely take cloth over fake leather. In fact, I tend to prefer cloth anyway for everyday driving.
Actually, I think it depends entirely on the vehicle. On my Jaaag, real leather and real wood is the only option.
On my Spitfire, a real leather interior would look out of place in my opinion. It’s an entry-level cheap sports car so vinyl and cloth suit it, but it’s British so the only option for trim is real wood.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 06:46 |
|
The BMW i3 has some nice wood trim too.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 07:28 |

Cloth is the only answer for anything. It’s easy to clean, comfortable, your ass doesn’t stick to it. It’s the miracle interior material.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 07:34 |
|
I pretty much agree! Although, velour is not my thing. At all.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:27 |
|
Completely agree. Any wood is ridiculous. Am I driving a piece of furniture?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:32 |
|
I guess it really comes to which car the material will go on, my C5 has cloth/leather seats and I love them.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:32 |
|
The plaid seats do look nice.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:35 |
|
I understand, I just think carbon fiber looks very classy or nice, it looks aftermarket for me in any shape or form, and it serves no real function.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:36 |
|
F1 seats are made of kevlar are they not?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:38 |
|
No, but your are in a confined space for sometimes prolonged amounts of time, just like a house or waiting room, and having nice wood and leather around you is never bad in those situations.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:38 |
|
Dully noted and fully agreed.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:39 |

Fake leather isn’t always bad, Eco leather is bad and cheap leather is awful.

You have a point.

GIMME PICTURES.

It might look pimpy in some cars (Cads and so on) but boy do they look/feel nice on old Mercs and Range Rovers.

Where does shagpile carpet fit in?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:42 |
|
Tru. My comment’s more on the positives of a nice cloth interior rather than the negatives of fake leather...
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:45 |
|
Deep pile carpet goes between polished metal and velour.
Shagpile is right above being stabbed.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 08:46 |
|
Ah yes, the C5 is a great example, really nice cloth seats with leather surroundings and I like it much more than the interior on the Tribeca.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:01 |
|
Excellent example.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:02 |

I hate it, with all my gut. This and that X60 SUV thing, people actually buy those things.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:15 |
|
What is this?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:16 |
|
Range Rover Autobiography LWB
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:18 |
|
Oh man das niiice
I have a desire to long term test the standard high level current Range versus the top of the line new XC90 lately.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:21 |
|
Oh god that X60 thing.
I saw one for sale and checked out its interior. The materials are so absurdly cheap that I felt the rental Fiat Uno I had once was a Bentley.
The infotainment looks and acts like those cheap no name GPS you buy on corner stores. Complete with constant crashes, hangs, bad translations and horrible adaptation. Worst of all, it is considered a selling point.
I can’t believe people’s standards got so low that they’re actually buying lots of these.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:21 |
|
I’m 100% sure the Land Rover will have better materials, but the XC90 is a thing of beauty, subtle Swedish beauty.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:23 |
|
The problem is the SUV craze, everyone wants one, and the X60 is very cheap compared to the other models and the Brazilian public never cared for quality, quantity is what matters.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:33 |
|
Too true, sir. I think the Volvo will last must longer though.
I cannot believe how much nicer my Disco II is on the inside than any vehicle in its now defunct class.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:34 |
|
Good point.
And the problem is that even when the market is full of these piles of shit, people will just move to the next pile of shit.
I’m genuinely curious how it’s going to be once these cars are useless, they’ll be sitting for sale and no one wants to buy them used. Actual quality Crossovers and SUVs prices will go through the roof. Even the Tucsons and similars.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:34 |
|
That it will, the more complex engines will have problems and the cup holders will go wonky after 10 years but it will last a lot longer than the Range.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:38 |
|
It’s going to be just like those Lifan Mini copies, people get hyped, they realize they are shit and the company will disappear. I’m sure those come with problems from the factory.
I read some comments people made on these cars, they don’t care that it is a blatant copy of other designs, that the materials are awful and so is the build quality, as long as they have a shitty shiny screen and are paying less, they will be happy.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:38 |

I may buy my wife one when they do the mid-cycle refresh in 2-3 years
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:39 |

I’m looking at them too and I doubt I’ll be able to swap my Range with a newer one.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:44 |

absolutely zero resale value on Rover products
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:45 |

Yes, but surprisingly no suspension failures so far.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:47 |

L322?
Dudem, do yourself a favor, as I’m assuming it was armored, get on Rovers North/British Atlantic/etc and buy a set of heavy duty coils for it.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:49 |
|
Because it is convenient.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:50 |
|
First gen L322 armored with 38k miles, I’m insane. I just can’t, in my mind the C5 Hydractive was the best suspension ever, but then I bought the Range, and it is like nothing else I have ever driven.

What about a good vinyl bench seat?
![]() 07/01/2015 at 09:56 |

Never been in one, can’t judge it
![]() 07/01/2015 at 10:21 |

Yes! Wood doesn't look good... I have brushed aluminum and that's one of the reasons I got my car, no crappy looking wood/faux wood.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 10:55 |

What is this velour bullshit being higher than real metal and alcantara and suede? You cray cray.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 11:01 |
|
doesn't velour start to smell after a while.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 11:05 |

Velour is 1980’s malaise ass-cloth.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 11:09 |
|
You call that a velour interior?!
^THAT’S a velour interior.
![]() 07/01/2015 at 15:31 |

You have to see it in real life, the fabric feels like bath towels.

Drivers best not shuffle around in them then, else abrasions. :?
I’m pretty sure kevlar can be covered up to be more human-friendly.
