New Acura NSX acting as the official pace car for the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb.

The New NSX. Few cars in its tier will be able to punch way above its own weight. Unless an M version of the i8 is in the works.

Don’t the racers go up one at a time as fast as possible, or at least staggered minutes apart? I don’t understand what the pace car is for?

i bet it checks for a clear track at the beginning. If its like Mt Washington race, they all go to the top and then come down in one large group, probably led by the NSX

Yes, you are correct. The pace car was the first car to run the mountain. It made sure the track was clear, spectators weren’t in god-awful places, and provided Acura with a nice marketing avenue for their sponsorship dollars (it worked). Plus, it was cool as fuck to see a brand new NSX run up Pikes at a good tilt.
