So I’m selling by F150 and am looking at a 08’ Passat. ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) I just had a guy text me and offer to trade his 1992 325i for my truck. What do you guys think? Not exactly what I was looking for but it looks like a pretty nice ride. I really want that wagon though.....

Edit: The CL ad has the motor listed as a V6 and its been up for 22 days..... Red flag is starting to run up the pole.

Normally I'm a BMW guy but I don't know.. First year of the E36. $4500 can get you a nicer one if your looking at autos. The auto doesn't do it for me, and the fact that he references the engine as a V6 worries me that maybe it wasn't maintained properly.

He has the engine listed as a V6. It’s an I6. Idk man, that might be a red flag...

If the car has problems, they really won’t be very expensive. The E36 is fun to drive and parts are cheap and easy to find. Working on the car is easy as well.

The Passat wagon looks nice though, but if stuff breaks on that it’ll be more expensive. I don’t know much about VAG products but it looks clean, get a PPI on the wagon and if all is well I’d probably go for that over the E36.

We have an ‘08 Passat Wagon and it’s great. I highly recommend it. Dependa which engine, apparently. The 2.0 TSI is the better 4 cyl. That’s what we havr and it’s been mostly trouble free.

pretty sure this one has the TSI. I think Im sold on it at this point unless something mechanically is wrong

Cool. I posted a few things in your old thread too. The CCTA motor is the good one, and I think that’s what this has. Had a few quirky issues with ours over the years, but they were all cheap fixes.

Get what you want - otherwise you’ll just be looking again in 6 months. I didn’t even look at the mods to the BMW, but if there are any it should put you on high alert.

I’d keep the pickup. Like someone stated listing a BMW with a v6 is bound to be neglected mechanically. BMWs dont take kindly to missed oil changes. You’ll miss the versatility of the truck when you sell it.

Well Im selling the truck either way unfortunately. I just need something smaller and better on gas right now. I will have another truck as a second vehicle at some point in the future.

E36s are surprisingly fun. I had a 97 328is and it was way more fun than I expected for $2k (had salvage title and 200k miles).

Side note: I’m from wilmington and live in Raleigh now. I could be reading your username wrong, but I also went to THS. Small world.

That’s awesome man, I graduated in 05, and my brother graduated from Topsail last year and is starting his Soph year at NCSU this fall. I’m an NCSU grad.

Edit: You may also want to hang onto your truck until you get here and sell it here. There’s also a lot more to choose from in Raleigh than Wilmington when looking for a new car.

Awesome. Always nice to find somebody from close by on the interwebs. My brother just graduated from Topsail this year. I notice you do the C&C stuff a good bit. Maybe we will run in to each other sometime.

Yea, it is. I asked my brother if he knew you (before I realized you were 4 years older than him) and he said he didn’t know you, but did know your brother. Yea, it’s been a busy summer so I haven’t made it out to one yet, but hopefully going to make it out to July’s. There’s a really good turnout if you can make it.
