What do you see? I see a happy family, job security, and wood. This is going to be someone’s childhood home. Christmases will be had here. Tears. Change.
Also really fun to kind of play a game, identifying each room without a floor plan (though it is painfully easy after a while).

Seems like a cheap alternative to copper. I hope the savings were passed along to the homeowner (as if).

I was watching Flipping Vegas and some hoodlums came and stole all the copper piping from a house they were doing.... so they switched to PEX and the next day the contractor left his PEX installing tools there so they stole them instead.

I used to feel the same way about PEX, back when there were less than perfect joining solutions out there. I don’t know how many systems you have sweated together, but I kind of like putting a blue and a red reel in the basement and just fishing them through from there. Then again I don’t pay anyone to do this for me, but it has saved me hundreds of hours. Almost noone uses copper on new construction these days

Copper is still the standard on many government installations and buildings. Plus, it seems like the contractor is making more money by not using copper, and I doubt the homeowner is seeing any benefit of that.

There are a lot of copper thieves in the Pac NW that go to developments and pull it at night.

noob construction knowledge here, but wood is used primarily because it is cheap, right? What other materials could you make a house from that would be better, whether or not it costs more.

Steel, plastic (I think), concrete, but wood is the most versitile. Easy to hang a shelf by drilling into a 2x4 than a concrete wall.

Where I live, post-and-beam style homes are really popular. I love the look of them, it’s like you’re staring at the skeleton of the house.

I love the smell of fresh lumber. My dad owns a company that frames houses. Some of my earliest memories are of visiting his jobs with my mom when I was very small. I spent each break from school from the age of 11 until I graduated college packing lumber and pounding nails with him. I paid for my first car with the money I made one summer. Some good memories and I learned some valuable skills.

While I can appreciate the versatility of wood, it’s unlikely I’ll ever get used to seeing this. I’m used to seeing stones, concrete et al.
Won’t this be a house you could technically shoot straight through? /ponders

My family is having a house built right now. The entire frame is up and the first part of the insulation is done (Just one more wrap). It is so cool to go inside and see the innards of the house. Very exciting to be buying a house and building it our way as well. We’ll be closing before September. It’s amazing to see how fast they’re building the house to. We have pretty much visited everyday since the frame started going up.

When I was little, my grandpa used to take me to look at all the other houses being built in the neighborhood. I absolutely loved finding the “toilet holes” in the floor.

Yours? If so nice.
I love looking at the inside of bare structures. @ 10 years ago during the housing boom a bunch of giant homes went up near my parents and all the locals would walk around and try to figure out the floorplan. Everyone kept making the same comments of “this doesn’t make sense, the house is facing the road and ignoring the lake view.” Then finally the plans were left and sure enough the best side of the homes were facing the road.

Thanks. I can see how if you wanted to add upgrades wood would be the easiest, also for repairs
