The previous owner of my Fairlane really wants it back, so I’m looking for something to replace it should that come to pass. My search is broad, but this just came up, and damn I want it.

Why must he do such a thing when the Rancho isn’t complete? Or shipped? Or even bought?

These are all good questions, and I hadn’t even thought of them. Now I want to find out how much it’d take to get to Rancho to me.

Just in case, I searched all of craigslist everywhere for a Wartburg for your interim wagon needs. No Campings, no Wartburgs at all. That - is crap.

I did the same search for Wartburgs after your Camping post a little while ago, and was equally disappointed.

Unrelated to wagons, but related to mid-60s FERD,
RustyShitboxIsTheNewFast
knows of a ‘65 Cyclone for sale...

The most malaise-y of the malaise era...cheap enough though.

I would love that, but have no room or time for another big project car, because I’ve got the engines out of both my 2002 and Lancia in the garage and a baby due soon. The Fairlane works because it’s a turn-key classic.

Speaking of Wartburgs, this is my new favorite Youtube.

That might be the nicest of those wagons left. I dig it. I remember when they were everywhere. What’s that round dial on the door do? Is it a fucked up way to open the vent windows?

OMFG.
A car EXACTLY like this is what I learned to drive in/on!
The only difference was it was an ‘84 but same white/woodgrain outside with red interior. Same V6 and auto.

Yep, that’s the vent window crank.

That’s funny. Thinking about it, I may have a vague memory of struggling with one of those on somebody’s Fairmont when I was a tyke.
