Here’s what the perpetrator left behind
Here’s the result of the hit:

Any idea what it’s from, I’m thinking a Pontiac.

Good grief, I’m surprised they could drive away...

You’d be surprised what amount of damage modern cars can inflict and take these days and still drive away

Judging by the shape of the reflector and the bumper form, I’m starting off with late-90s to early-00s something. The reflector shape, however, doesn’t bring to mind any Pontiacs of that vintage. Still thinking GM though because of the bumper form shape.

I’m deep in Google images looking up early 2000’s late 90’s maroon sedans and I say no to the Pontiac idea, the fog lamp/circular out cut from the portion left behind does line up.

Any visible p/n or atleast some partials?

Look at how high the damage is. If it was a low-slung car, it would’ve gone underneath. I think we’re looking for a CUV or minivan.

Yeah, I was initially thinking Sunfire, as it came in that kind of maroon colour, but the bumper changed a few times over the years. Maroon was offered in 03-05 but I’m not sure it matches up.
03+:
Everything else in Sunfire land has a prolapsed foglight hole or a very aggressive triangular feature which is hard to miss.
The reflector doesn’t seem to match up quite right to me either. I would guess Grand Am or Grand Prix because those are the usual suspects for white trash DUI in my neck of the woods. The reflector is still hard to match.
Early 90s Grand Spam comes sorta close, but there’s a lot of details that tell me it’s a late-90s “overstyled” bumper car, except the reflector still doesn’t make sense.
Outside of Pontiac, the Olds Alero also came in that godawful maroon colour and is also a popular sports-bar DUI hot rod. I would think Olds Aurora but that car doesn’t have enough chin on the bumper to match, and the reflectors for those are comically obvious.
The Escape also got hit far enough up the quarter panel that I think it might not be a car at all - something more SUV-like, like an Oldsmobile Bravada. The reflectors are almost an exact match:
It came in maroon too.

I've looked at all the Buick models, Pontiac models and Oldsmobile and nothing seems to match up. the color is very GM though.

I looked venture... doesn't add up at all.

the Pontiacs have weird bumper lines that aren't present and the way that bumper piece is shaped toward the bottom isn't anything I can see on them.

Me too. It
almost
looks Caravan-ish. This one is a bit of a stumper!

Checked the faceboo link, owner says their front security cam caught it and it looks like a Pathfinder or Rodeo. So SUV/CUV direction. Neither of those fit, so GO GO GO GO!

2001-2004 Isuzu Rodeo LS.
Fog lamp cutout matches perfectly, as does the lower lip cut.

Can’t tell from the photo - is that up on jackstands?

What about the weird reflector though?
...unless it fell off the Escape.

I’ll ask.

This is probably a passenger-side portion, so I'd keep Pontiac in the running.

A drunk driver in an explorer (late 90s) hit a friend’s early 90s accord. Went up and over the front monster truck style. Snapped the front right steering/suspension parts. Drove about 3 miles trying to get away with a front wheel tucked under the truck.

Police should be able to get the paint code if its factory.

How'd you manage to get to the Rodeo? I was bouncing all around vehicles with round(ish) foglight cutouts. And I was on the same track as you, thinking it might have been a minivan or SUV. I have to say I probably would have never gotten it though, as I completely forgot about the Rodeo. Good work.
![]() 06/29/2015 at 14:02 |

Also if the impact is higher up we can rule out cars and look at SUVs, so that could be a big factor. Don’t the police know this stuff?

Once I realized it was not a Pontiac and took a better look at the damage, I noted it had to be an SUV/CUV. Given the early-aughts age (because of the roundness) I knew there weren’t many plastic-bumpered CUVs running around then. Thought about some refreshed smaller SUVs, looked at Pathfinder, fog didn’t match. Looked at Rodeo, fog didn’t match. Looked at a few others then went back to the Rodeo realizing I didn’t look at the right generation. BAM.

Haven’t the foggiest.

can they take a picture of the inside of the piece? Often there’s good info right inside some body panels.
Looks like a Dodge Caravan or similar vehicle to me, damage is also pretty high up, so I would suspect something taller than a sedan for sure to do that kind of damage.

You’d be surprised at how much damage a new car can receive with the older car looking fine. Everything’s designed to collapse now.

Older Pathfinder or Rodeo was what the camera got from the comments section.

Yep, owner said this on facebook: “ We can’t see the tag yet, but it looks like an older pathfinder or rodeo- burgundy”.
![]() 06/29/2015 at 15:39 |

Yup. Rodeo LS. Not too many of those survived the rust, I’d wager even less in that color.

Color makes me think SN95 Mustang? But who am I lol

@BTU, can you get in touch with the people who originally posted? The metal piece that looks like a marker light appears to have a part number around the edge, and it might lead to a make/model or at least a potential lead. Should take a much closer look at that.

I can. I’ll pass it along. Cops seem to be eager to find the person, must be a slow day.

Keep in mind it could also be a Honda Passport of the same generation. I’m not sure which one would be more likely to come in that maroon color.

Yeah I looked at the passport too knowing that, but they had different front bumper styling. Please disregard the underlines, lol kinja mobile
