Free chocolate milk!
My 7 year old would be enthused.

And gross.

Pretty awesome...I’d guess there is a broken pipe allowing soiled ground water into your water supply or there is a seriously corroded pipe somewhere.
What did it smell like (if you smelled it)?

Yeah I was a bit disgusted too.

I dared not to smell it. I think it’s probably just rust or something.

I once flushed a toilet in an abandoned building for the first time in ~10 years. If you think THAT’S gross....
(Side note: who’s been paying the damn water bill for ten years? There was a leaky pipe in the basement, so it’s probably cost someone several thousand dollars just to create a mold hazard and probably condemn the building if it wasn’t already.)

That’s... Disgusting.

I doubt it smelled like your avatar.

Looks like it was probably just a rusty galvanized pipe. Rather than shit.

I am skeptical it is a rusted pipe unless you live/work in a building that doesn’t frequently have water being used/cycled. Unless you were the first person in and used the water.
Put in a work order request, that is a health hazard.
My concern with the smell has to do with other things...
Speaking of water...my brand new AC unit at my desk has a small leak, it sounded like someone was peeing on the wall behind me.

Notified someone; it’s an NYU building so it is frequently used

It probably was. When Sandy happened, some of the pipes in my apartment at the time spewed out rusty water. I let it run for a few minutes and it turned back to normal

Chocolate fountain? You must be inside Wonka’s factory!
This is seriously gross and part of the reason I will never use a public fountain.

Relief that it’s not shit water.

I am sure that was awesome!
If you want to see fantastic...some areas are old and don’t have those pipes you see that come out of the ground and make a bend or an angle. The reason those pipes exist is sometimes when a pipe breaks it will cause a vacuum effect. This will actually cause the pipes in your house to start sucking instead of blowing...and should your faucet in your sink be near...say your pile of dirty dish water...that is getting sucked into the pipes. That bend in the pipes is designed to work like a kink in a hose.
Yes...that is a weak expliniation, but I want to avoid the TL;DR
