Some of you were waiting to see SpaceX and NASA try to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! again, live. What happened instead was a rather anticlimactic KABLOOEY after it hit an altitude of 44 kilometers.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I say “anti-climactic” because it looks like it suddenly turned into a bunch of clouds instead of a massive fireball. Regardless, I’m sure Elon Musk is rubbing his ears and saying “WOOOOSAAAAAHHH” right now.

Better luck next time, E.

Not as good as when the Antares went kaboom above the pad.

This is still quite sad as it seemed the Falcon 9 was well on its way to a successful launch. I wish the SpaceX team all the best.

SpaceX has issued the following press release;

FUCK FAILURE. I didn’t get to have six children by pulling out mid-coitus, and I’ll be goddamned if we give up landing a rocket on a drone ship. I don’t care how many of these fuckers we have to blow up before we actually land one. I’ll blow up every single fucking rocket on this planet if I have too, and If we still haven’t done it after that I’LL BUILD SOME MORE!

See you next month and every month until we either get this done or the heat death of the universe comes, bitches.

- Elon Musk

That there is the spirit... something I would usually associate with the hero of the story.

But no, CVK is Iron Man, Musk is the Bond villain.

You mean Elon Musk isn’t Tony Stark? He’s just an awkward Afrikaner?

Looks like Musk is going to sacrifice a bunch of engineering interns.

Any interns let go will be relieved, since SpaceX doesn’t pay very well for them at all. It’s cool to say you intern with SpaceX and it’s probably helpful to put it on a resume, but they over-work and under-pay their interns. Their employees, however, get paid very well but are simultaneously really good in their fields and under tremendous expectations.

Source: I have a friend who interned with SpaceX.

I can hear all the launches from my house. I was watching this one live on TV and it actually blew up before you could even hear it.

I heard about the overwhelmed interns. Thanks for the heads up. Another company scratched off the internship list.

Kinja'd!!!

I saw the whole thing from Cocoa Beach. Very sad, it was the first launch I ever saw in person. Sucks, I hope they figure out what went wronf and fix it. I hate when these things malfunction, I dont care who it belongs to.

Sorry I’m late to the party. I was watching this on Sunday and after re-watching the video a few times, it looks like there was a problem in the inter-stage/second stage. This is probably good news for the powered landing since it’s unlikey that they will revise their plans to continue to powered recovery.
