It starts with a jump. The way all Jalopnik reviews should start. Jump tests are important.

Just a heads up though.. it’s not a car chase, and it’s not really a movie about cars.

I’ve seen this film and to be honest, it’s shit - even though there’s more driving in it later, specifically the hero (who was rally driver when younger) joins a recce team laying the route for the Dakar Rally. They drive Themas on dunes..... awesome, or would be awesome, if it’s wasn’t a cheesy film.
However, the good news is, that this is a sequel to a film, hence the name “20 years later”. And the original film is excellent, both as a romantic flic and from a petrolhead POV. Just one point of interest, to whet your appetite: the hero drives the Monte Carlo rally in a Mustang (we’re in the early ‘60s), and then drives this Mustang across the whole of France to get to her love. Oh you know what, i shut up just watch this

I asked that same question and from a user Lantem on YouTube said the following:
“It is not a chase - they practice stunts. It is the beginning of the movie, so if somone watch it for the first time might think, it indeed is some car chase. What it really is, is explained duing the phone call and conversation of these two women. One of them is saying that the main character (played by Jean-Louis Trintignant in Lancia Thema) is out and busy at the track.”
Also, just going to point out the director of this movie is Claude Lelouch, the same fella that did Rendezvous:
