In honor of the Alfa returning to the rwd sports sedan game I’ve put together a list of the best, and worst, Alfa Romeos. This list is based mostly on looks. It’s highly subjective, but it’s well known I’m the utmost supreme authority on automotive taste so this might as well be a scientific law. Anyway take a look at Alfa Romeo’s greatest hits and misses.
27) 1989-94 SZ/RZ
26) 1983-87 Arna
25) 1998-07 166
24) 1984-87 90
23) 1992-98 155
22) 1994-2000 146/145
21) 1971-89 Alfasud
20) 1975-86 Sei/6
19) 20010- Giulietta
17) 1972-87 Alfetta
16) 2007- MiTo
15) 985-92 75/Milano
14) 1987-98 164
13) 1950-59 1900
12) 1961-68 Sprint
11) 2000-10 147
10) 1997-07 156
9) 1954-65 Giulietta
8) 2013- 4C

4) 1970-77 Montreal

This is 10x better than the spider.

The fuck is this?! Blasphemy!

Where are the lourvers!!!!!????

I don’t know squat about Alfas, but some of their older saloons were quite handsome. The ones that had actual windows...

I guess I’m glad I never knew this existed.

The yellow one is at the wrong end of the list.

Both have clean simple lines, I like the Spider’s smaller grille more though.

Which yellow one? there are two

I do not understand the placement of the Giulia Sprint GT/GTV/GTA when this is a subjective ranking based on looks.
In my (clearly correct) opinion (<——this is sarcasm, just because sometimes, that needs to be said), the 8C and Montreal are literally leagues beyond the Giulia Sprint in terms of appearance.
Otherwise, I mostly agree with your list. Other than where I believe you are wrong. =)

I just realised that most Alfas look terrible.

The 8C has a pretty much perfect body, but I’m a bit let down by it’s Alfashield. The Montreal’s louvers are cool, but ultimately the GTA’s clean/simple/classic lines edge it out. The GTA’s racing heritage is a big plus versus the 8C’s mediocre driving experience (according to Top Gear) and the Montreal’s unimpresive V8.

So you think that the modern day Giulietta is better than the Alfetta line? You’ve probably never been more wrong in your life.
Oh and the complete turd 159/Brera ranks even higher?!
I can BS over this list. Ok, maybe not that, but the only way to get even remotely close to what really is a ranking of Alfas, the least you should do is swap the Alfetta / Alfetta GT / GTV and the 159/Brera.
Yes, you read that right, I do think Alfettas are better than Duettos. Come at me if you disagree.

The Montreal’s V8 was lacking? I was under the assumption that it was essentially a road tuned evolution of the 33’s engine design and the rest of the drivetrain and running gear was largely sourced from the GTV. IMO, it’s quite a bit better looking that the GTA/GTV, but that’s the things with opinions. LOL.
I’m still bummed that from all descriptions, the 8C doesn’t drive as well as it looks (which would be impossible).
But I’m splitting hairs in regard that for me it would go 33, 8c, Montreal, GTA/GTV, and then pretty much follow your decisions. =)

The RZ looks great as a coupe (should probably be somewhere in the middle.) The Milano should be #26 only in front of the Arna. Otherwise fairly spot on (that is why you are an authority on the matter.)

What’s wrong with the Brera, other than being way too heavy? It looks well and that’s what the market it was aimed at wanted.
I happen to like the 159 as well, although not enough to actually be prepared to buy one.

It’s only disappointing if you compare it to Jags, Ferraris, and Aston Martin’s which were making closer to 300hp at the time. I guess you could compare it to 911 and Dino 6 cylinders, but those cars were a bit smaller.
At the end of the day the top 4 cars here are probably in my overall top 20 best looking cars, which is impressive.

The Alfasud was a miserable rustbucket, so you tell me.
![]() 06/24/2015 at 14:50 |

No way, this car is so cool!
![]() 06/24/2015 at 14:51 |

Eh, I kinda like that one in a Yugo sort of way. But I do agree, the OP seems to be playing to his own agenda putting the ugly/modified convertable version when the coupe looks unbeleivable.

oh my......

The modifications are very “of the period”. I would enjoy looking at it at a car show, as opposed to yet another ‘56 F100 with a 350/350, Mustang II front suspension, and a Ford 9”.

GET. OUT. (Also sarcasm) I've only seen the 8C in person once, and it looked great, but I would so much rather have the giulia sprint any day of the week, although tbh that isn't all about its looks
![]() 06/24/2015 at 17:36 |

What the fuck. You cannot have a Montreal without the louvers.
No louvers, no want.

Being heavy is exactly the problem - it ruined the handling. FWD cars can handle well, but they need to be light on their feet to do so, hence the success of the 156 in this regard....
![]() 06/27/2015 at 18:50 |

Swap the glorious 166 with the godawful 4C and your family’s lives get spared.
Also GT

All compact cars of the era were horrible rustbuckets.

The Alfasud was the only one that could out-rust the Japanese, who refused to galvanize their steel
because they hadn’t invented it.
![]() 06/27/2015 at 20:00 |

Sure, the Alfasud in particular suffered from massive built quality issues due to the untrained workforce and crappy soviet steel (which Fiat used as well), but hardly any of its european competitors had outstanding built quality, not even the omnipresent Golf I.

20010 Giulietta ??? lol

Is it odd that I got a boner towards the end of the list? BTW TZ is among the better ones.
