Longboarding: thoughts and opinions?
I ride two longboards, of which I don’t have pictures of right now, for different purposes. I have a drop-through Arbor Cypher that is perfect for sliding and downhill and a Sector 9 Burt pintail that is amazing for carving, and hopefully will turn into dancing. So, this is why I ask your opinion:
Reading random articles on the internet, there is a bunch of mixed thoughts about it. Don’t do it because reason A, B, and C, or there is do it because reason A, B, and C. So, what are your thoughts on longboarding/longboarders?

Thoughts: I do it because it’s easier that a regular skateboard, but I’m getting better. I’ll never be gleaming the cube, but oh well...
Opinions: do whatever the fuck you like to do. Seriously. Other peoples’ opinions can’t make you happy.

The only ones I’ve really seen are the “cool” kids at my school who rode them to class.
Never made much sense to me in the middle of flat-as-shit Illinois, but hey.

I think cool, but really doesn’t belong on busy canyon roads.

I don’t mind them as long as they’re not being assholes or obnoxious.

I kind of feel the same way: longboarding is a little easier for me. Dancing though, yeah.... that’s difficult to do. Otherwise, I couldn’t care less about other’s opinions. I just know that, for some reason, we get a lot of hate. I still wonder why.

Busy, no. Open/free of traffic, yes. I’ve done 35 mph on a pretty open hill and it was scary fun!

Agreed. I try so hard to be nice about it!

My issue with longboards are the people that ride them. Or at least the stupid ones.
They fly around campus expecting you to get out of their way and if you dont they just barrel into you. I knew a guy that and broke his arm doing that, his explanation “Those bitches didnt get out of my way”

I see a lot of those “cool” kids who use them as a fashion accessory. God, they drive me nuts!

I can’t stand those people, especially on my campus where everyone is not paying attention because they’re texting or whatever people my age do these days. If you can’t control your board, don’t ride.

evidentiallyIt’s not as much an issue with long boarders as it is with bicyclists who ride on the sidewalk and then all of a sudden jump out into traffic, I seriously almost killed a stupid bicyclist who was riding int the bike lane, didn’t look to see I was behind her and didn’t hear me either and then dove to the other side of the road like 20 feet in front of me to go to a side street (this was on a main busy road in my city and I was probably going like 35 mph) WITH NO FREAKING INDICATION!!! I’m fine sharing the roads with bicyclists if they will indicate where they are going. But that doesn't seem to be such an issue with longboarders

If you enjoy the nice sense of speed without being a complete douche, definitely ride, it can be a lot of fun. With that said I love downhill sports, especially skiing.

Honestly that goes for most things. As long as you’re not bothering me I’m cool with it. Unless it’s like something super illegal.

Good point. Doing something illegal is definitely a turn off, but if a person is genuinely trying to be nice, I don’t really care what sport they do.

My only opinion on long-boarding is that I wish James Shields would stop doing it. Seems like a 60-day DL waiting to happen.
Oh, nobody cares? Cool.

Definitely agree.

THANK YOU! Yeah, if a rider has no control, why be on the board? Now, if they are away from people and are trying to learn how to control a longboard, that’s a total different idea.

The stupid ones are the worst. I haven’t been too bright starting off, but I learned how to ride on empty streets or parking lots. Not on a campus surrounded by people.

I’ve never tried skiing. Probably too difficult for me! XD I guess there are people who just want to hate on someone or something for no reason whatsoever.

I just use mine for rolling about with the kids and getting comfortable on wheels. I’m not interested in speed or downhill riding. I just want to learn to ollie before my bones get too brittle!
About dancing, got any video recommendations? Never heard of it.

I don’t think anyone likes bicyclists. Not even other bicyclists like other bicyclists. I will admit though, I do downhill my board every now and then, and if I am in your way, I at least try to get off the road. Indicating is something I should work on though. Thanks for pointing that out!

Beginner/how to longboard dance.

Your comment made me google who that is and if they longboard. They don’t.

Yes he does. I’ve seen him doing it. Both on TV and in person.

I don’t mind them on the roads, if only they would either only be on the sidewalk or on the road, when the change between the two with absolutely no indication is what really annoys me

Neat, thanks.

Oh gotcha. Sudden no indications are the worst.

Oh. I couldn’t find proof. Oops! Let me see if I can find a video of him doing it.
EDIT: I stand (or sit) corrected

If you’re also into regular skateboarding, check out Kilian Martin.

I could never get regular skating down. It was such a pain! Grew video though!
