Graduated grad school exactly a month ago. Been applying to jobs since February. Mostly interaction design, graphic design, augmented reality, some virtual reality stuff too, video editing, and a little bit of game design and art stuff.

So far, I have had dozens of rejections (3 today!) and only 3 interviews. Been doing dozens of applications a week.

I have had roughly 40 contract lawyer gigs since 2006. Waiting at home for the next one to come along. No nibbles yet.

I have a friend that has a Astrophysics degree a was in retail for a number of years because he couldn’t find work in his feild. He later went on to get a Masters in Business and went into selling turn key businesses

print on demand/large-scale color management. (digital media/photography grad). Everyone forgets that that industry exists. And it IS shrinking, but those qualified to do the work have been running away from it faster than the demand is shrinking. It beats the hell out of retail and gets "management" as a buzzword on your resume...

By the way, my sister graduated law school 2 years ago (She got a nice job \o/)

I recall one of her law school friends who passed the NY bar was offered at job at a Wall Street law firm... salary was $28k. He declined.

‘Wall Street law firm’ probably meant they had an office-share downtown. And tell your sister to keep her head down and hang onto that job. I think it might get worse before it gets better. But I’m not a glass-half-full kind of guy.

Here in US America, it is employment at will - they can fire you anytime for any reason (except race, gender, a few other things)! Of course they say the reverse is true - you can quit anytime! Small comfort.

Nibby is saying that now. I hope you do find the career you want, but in some places a Masters Degree means you get to be store manager at Checkers. Who would turn down that position? :P
